TAT Expects Strong Summer Air Traffic This Year

BANGKOK (NNT) - The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) expects strong air traffic during the summer to help reach its long-haul market targets by the end of this year.

 

Siripakorn Cheawsamoot, TAT deputy governor for Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and the Americas, stated that 98,625 flights have been scheduled between April and December 2023.

 

These figures demonstrate rising tourism demand despite the fact that the season is not the busiest of the year, while the average airfare is also higher than before the Covid-19 pandemic.

 

TAT has set a target for each of its eleven offices around the world to attract one million visitors to Thailand.

 

In order to help its office reach its objectives, the deputy governor said TAT plans to assist airlines increase their average load factor to 80% by expanding cooperation with domestic airlines to increase connectivity with international carriers.

 

One of its plans is to establish code-share partnerships which will allow passengers to purchase a one-time ticket without needing to buy separate domestic tickets upon arrival. Many international airlines have expressed an interest in this cooperation.

 

The deputy governor also expressed optimism for Thailand’s tourism recovery, stating that some markets already have the potential to reach the same level as it was before the pandemic.

 

One such market is tourists from Russia, which as of April 5 had already seen 591,002 visitors. It was reported that 1.48 million Russian tourists visited Thailand in 2019.

I have no idea what the numbers look like but on our recent trip to Bangkok, Hua Hin and Pattaya we saw nothing but Russians, they are everywhere. A female friend of my wife works in a hotel in Phuket and she says the same, Phuket is heaving with Russians. If the numbers came in huge, I wouldn't be surprised.

Have to say that the majority of Russians we saw in Thailand recently on our trip were not exactly of draft age, or of military calibre, unless Vlad has resorted to conscripting pensioners and tubbies.

I live in Phuket and can say there are plenty. Of course, in the major tourist areas you are going to see tourists, but look to the more residential parts and sometimes you think you've landed in PhuketGrad.

I usually see quite a few when out shopping in the Pattaya area and they would qualify as of draft age. Often young families or couples.

Thank you TAT. The daily update to numbers of expected tourist arrivals is something I really live for. It is so exciting wondering what today's forecast is going to be....wondering whether 100 million or 100, 000, 001 visitors will arrive this summer Of particular interest is the racial make up of the arrivals....wondering whether there will be more Indians or Chineses....and who will arrive on buses rather than by air. Once again thank you for your dedication in revising these numbers several times a day.....it reminds me of being back at work when or management demanded to know the exact forecast sales of each product line each hour of every day.

Lots of young military age and young families in Phuket.  Especially in the residential areas.  My Thai friends are complaining that the Russians are now living where Thai people usually live.  And they party too much. Not happy with Russians living in Thai neighborhoods.

TAT. Are they a group of the most optimistic people in the worl or just completely full of s**t?  I think both. 
They spend all this time running “campaigns “ to attract tourists, generally various specific nationalities, religions, etc. Why not come up with a theme song?  Aerosmith’s “Dream On” would seem to be a good fit.

Maybe they do not feel welcome in the EU hotspots any more - or perhaps there are not many airlines able to fly to the Med from Russia.

Some of these offices are in Dubai, Czechia, Singapore, and Hong Kong...

 

Dubai, for example, has a population of 3.33 million. And their target is 1 million visitors...

If such news were simply ignored and not ‘clicked on' the thread would quickly die off and be ignored, the news teams would not bother supplying the information ‘we click on’....
