Compare with scores of best Asian

Featured Replies

Everyone chooses Pattaya ... mostly...but as times go on , generations change ,cities change ,Asia changes etc etc

First of all I'm wondering does Pattaya ,in Thailand top the list for single male retirees ?

I would like some comments from others who have retired to other Asian destinations.

I want to compare this ,

So your a single mature age man

Compare these retirement destos

Pattaya Thailand ,

Financial - 9/10 cheap to live , rent cheap, good for budget living  , can easily live on $2000 aud a month 50k baht ,yes

Plenty of condos for rent on a budget to high class

Transport - Score 9/10 you have grab , bus , taxis ,baht buses , motor bike

Nightlife 8/10 ,plenty of bars , but NO  major concerts , ballet etc

Restaurants ,8/10 plenty of good restaurants from low to high class

Massage 10/10, everywhere

Available hired  company 10/10 ,from bars to street hire

Medical care 8/10 big hospital to small ,but ambulance services fail

Crime 9/10 no crime ,can walk safely anywhere mostly

Shopping centres 10/10

Pedestrian safety 7/10

Some areas have no footpaths

Now let's look at other Asia destos ,Cebu in Philippines ,Duamagette ?

Palawan ? Davao ?

Vietnam, ? Hanoi,ho ch

Cambodia ? Siem reap etc

Time to make a move. No place is perfect. Plenty of places within a 30 min drive to Patts to live the quiet life on the beach. Utopia doesn't exist. While I haven't visited all  of Thailand, I'd scratch off Isaan. Living close to Patts makes getting to Airports easy, good medical care, malls with nice restaurants and movie theaters and of course a good place to scratch an itch.

Either you can afford to retire or you can't.

I've been in Pattaya a few times, not my cup of tea. Chiang Rai suits my lifestyle.

Before retiring here, I researched the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand, because I had worked in all of them previously as a consultant.

Thailand came out on top - easily.

Chiang Rai is nice but lacks Nightlife if your after theatres etc

And what about medical hospital?

"Everyone chooses Pattaya"

NO, never was a consideration.   After visiting a few times, no desire or reason to return.

Can't comment on other Asian countries, as TH is 3rd world enough for me.  I need good infrastructure.   TH meets the minimum and affordable required for my smile.

A small amount of nightlife (bars) along JetYod Road, plenty of massage shops in the sois off there.

The only theatre I need is Netflix, I am not sure if the live Thai acts in the Night Bazaar are still going.

Chiang Rai has Ram, Overbrook, Sriburin and Bangkok private hospitals.

I'm sure CR has nightlife, just not the sextourist/sexpat ghetto strip.

When single in Udon Thani, nightlife was excellent, but I didn't visit the sextourist/sexpat ghetto strip, unless a meet up with other expats, actually during a monthly local forum meet up.

Aside from that, I avoided once daughter was old enough to understand why it was there.  Did have 2 restaurants worthy of visiting for a while.
