Chuwit takes his anti-weed crusade to south - Muslim leaders agree but protestors say they've "lost faith"

Daily News Thai Capton: "Chana people don't want liberalization" and won't wait

 

Daily News reported on the latest leg of Chuwit Kamolwisit's anti-marijuana crusade.

 

But he didn't have everything his own way.

 

The whistleblower and erstwhile darling of the Thai public claims to have public support on his side for his anti-weed and anti-Bhumjaithai party rhetoric.

 

But the media reported that 30 minutes before Chuwit turned up at the HVC Academy in Chana district of Songkhla there were 50 protestors with placards shouting slogans.

 

They said they didn't want Chuwit there, disagreed with him and suggested he was doing other's political bidding.

 

They also said they had "lost faith" in Chuwit because of his crusade.

 

They dispersed before he arrived however because they needed to break the Ramadan fast.

 

Chuwit said that far from being of medicinal benefit for things like depression and insomnia, weed actually causes such ailments.

 

He called it part of the drug menace in Thailand and said that the "free-for-all" was not approved by parliament and was unjust.

 

Muslim leaders at the academy agreed with him and had their pictures taken at the gates and during a fast breaking dinner.

Chuwit said he came in peace and solidarity with his Thai Muslim brothers and sisters.

 

A local doctor called Suphat said she thought there was some benefits for medicinal marijuana but the rush to recreational freedom was excessive.

 

ASEAN NOW notes that despite the protests Daily News had no pictures of that. The media continues to present Chuwit as having wide public support.

The man himself said that people could vote for who they wish and public opinion would show at the ballot box.

 

His crusade is largely directed at the Bhumjaithai party and its leader, Thai health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul who have promoted the legalization of marijuana that has seen 14,000 outlets spring up in Thailand selling weed, a drug formerly on the narcotic's list in the SE ASIAN nation.

Khaosod reporting that Anutin says he will retire from politics if Bhumjai Thai gets less than 12 seats.

Do crime under the influence, by all means do the time for the crime, not just for doing drugs, and nothing else. 

Free up cops to fight real crimes.

I don’t think the Muslim community should get involved and used for political agenda. 
Let people chose their own path, right or wrong from religious perspective God can be the best judge .

The Quran does not directly forbid cannabis and some Muslim scholar consider cannabis to be halal and permissible. Some Muslim scholars deem (without reference to the Quran) by analogy cannabis to be similar to khamr and therefore to be haraam (forbidden). 

A scientific survey of Muslims in the South (there are Muslins living throughout Thailand, what is their position?) is required for an accurate read of Muslims on cannabis use. 

Chuwit's anti-weed crusade is just his theory.

Of course they do, provided it's not Muslim women providing the service.  They would be classed as "what your right hands possess" - a phrase that appears 15 times in the Koran - meaning, amongst other things, that it's acceptable to rape them.

Surely decriminalisation should be a federal government legislation decision. However, if a referendum is held should be held irrespective of religion. Personally I know Muslims who drink / take drugs, but still go to the mosque from time to time - don't drink or take drugs the day before.

Thai Muslim citizens have equal rights under the Thai Constitution so they are entitled to lobby concerning matters related to legislation, as they are in the UK.

I have no God. I do not believe in the supernatural. My thought processes are based on rational thought and evidence.
