The Supreme Court of Thailand ruled today that the death penalty will be upheld for the former primary school director who shot dead three people – including a two year old child – and wounded another during a gold shop robbery in Lop Buri province three years ago.

On January 9, 2020, then-39 year old Prasitthichai “Golf” Khaokaew entered the Aurora gold shop inside a Robinson’s department store and killed three innocent bystanders, including a toddler. He fled with gold necklaces worth 664,470 baht (US$19,350).

On August 27, 2021, the Criminal Court sentenced Golf to death, a fine of 1,000 baht, and ordered him to pay compensation to all of the victims. He was found guilty of cold-blooded murder and illegal use of weapons among other penalties.

The court cited that Golf’s use of a gun silencer suggested the murders were premeditated. He also did not surrender himself to the police after the crime.

We really need to bring back hanging and other forms of public execution in west.

The 1000 baht fine must have been the harder part of the sentence to accept, but he will be sent to the golf fields forever for his heinous crime.

I wait for the bail, then he disappears, just like the cops up north, a few years back, sentenced to death, for murder, then let out on bail, then disappeared... thai justice, a joke

Why no mediation by lawyers that result in settlement ?

From my observation, there are 2 types of lawyers in Thailand : litigation lawyers and mediation lawyers.

99.99% of the lawyers are mediation lawyers.  These are the "best" lawyers in town because they always claimed they have "never" lost a case.  Of course, if you don't fight in out in Court you can never lose a case.  That is what they will not tell you.

Fair enough. You believe in God and therefore you believe in an eye for an eye, a life for a life, based on a book (Leviticus 24:19-24) then as you say...each to his own.

I'm generally opposed to the death penalty as there is no reversing it should the wrong person be exonerated after the fact, and I've heard of that happening several times over the years, especially with the advent of DNA testing methods for evidence!  However, in cases such as this where there is  no question or doubt as to the perpetrator of this horrendous crime, then I'm all for it!  Besides punishing the convicted murderer, it sends a strong deterrent message to any future criminals as to what punishment they may expect to experience for committing similar crimes in the future!

After 36 year living in Bangkok and having been to court as an interpreter hundreds of time I disagree!  There are only 2 types of lawyers in Thailand honest not rich lawyers and crooked rich lawyers!

Oh no we don't!

The only surprising news to me is that this crime happened over 3 years ago.  Feels like last year.

Perhaps Madame Guillotine for added color and crowd entertainment?

What incentive he has to pay compensation to the victims?

He's going to die anyway..

#ClownWorld

highly unlikely he will be executed, most likely life in prison

Why?

It is barbaric & achieves nothing!

What's more spending time in jail is much greater punishment, especially an Asian jail.

I tend to think that the longer he is in prison the more time he has to think about what he did. Execution is too quick.

Agree.

Around 500 inmates on death row

Thailand last carried out an execution in June 2018, this was the first execution in the country since two men were executed by lethal injection in August 2009, which followed a period of no executions since 2003.

Let the victims families pull the trigger.

I would if it were my 2 year old son he murdered.

He went out with a loaded weapon and deliberately killed 3 people, one a 2 year old child.

IF he is executed he will know why.

If nobody else learns from the lesson, execute them also.

Never mind their human rights, they abandoned them when they carried a loaded gun.

What about the victims human rights to live a normal life, especially the 2 year old?

What is more barbaric than murdering a 2 year old?

He should be kneeling down facing the executioner and shot between the eyes with his own gun.

Risk your life for a few baht?
Some people need a real bang on their head....

The problem with the death penalty is, of course, that sometimes those who are not guilty are executed. Over 30 such cases in the USA in the last century.

Waste this scum without delay he's a horror of a human ????
