Federal appeals court upholds several voter restrictions enacted by Florida Republicans

A federal appeals court has upheld several provisions of a restrictive election law in Florida that was passed by the GOP-controlled legislature in 2021.

 

A divided panel of the 11th US Circuit Court of Appeals reversed most of a ruling by a trial judge last year that said the provisions in question violated the Constitution and the Voting Rights Act by intentionally targeting Black voters.

 

US District Judge Mark Walker’s ruling, the appeals court said Thursday, was legally and factually flawed. The 11th Circuit also reversed a holding by Walker that would have required Florida to seek federal approval for any future election rule changes that are similar to the provisions he had struck down.

These restrictions should have been removed, simply because they were enacted based on a lie.  The election was not stolen and there was no major voter fraud.

What's wrong with removing all voter fraud equations? I would think all should be on board with a fair election.

If a person is too apathetic or lazy to vote in person on election day he/she/it should not really have sway... it would stop most of the election fraud being perpetrated and would provide for a fair representative election by citizens who care about their country.

There is no evidence of any significant voter fraud.

 

Fair representation is achieved by maximizing voter participation.

 

The restrictions put in place by the Republicans create obstacles to voter participation.

Not sure how many Ronnie caught I think it was seven people total cost several million all his (cases were thrown out in court) it’s more about preventing a certain group from voting more than anything else

Expand your consciousness to include people that may not be just like you

People who have to work 2-3 jobs to support their family can't fit a trip to polls during work day

Republicans have gotten rid of many poll spots, especially in cities  (which leads to huge lines to waste hours in. Those lines & chance people might want the wait to be less awful by providing thirsty with water is why the anti democratic republicans outlawed the giving of water.), drop off ballot places eliminated; early voting limited (what possible reason not to allow that?)

Elections ought to be on weekends along with early voting

Republicans seem to want to return to original qualifications to vote: white. male. property owner.

Voter fraud that has been found is most often done by republicans and no where has it impacted the outcome

Spot on! In countries relying on in person voting, elections are usually held on Sunday. It also facilitates finding volunteers and thetefore having more, closer, voting spots.

There are numerous legitimate reasons why it's very hard or impossible for some voters to vote in person, but I just can't be bothered making obvious lists for you MAGA guys.

What election fraud?? After 3 years of intense scrutiny by dozens of GOP funded groups the result has been a big, fat NOTHING - ZERO- ZILCH!
