Hi

I am in the process of doing the paperwork for my wife's V V to the UK. This is for her second visa so I thought that it might be easier than last time. Not really as the VAF 01 form has changed a bit but that's not the problem. Could someone who has applied for a second, or subsequent V V please help with this question -

On the VAF 01, question 4.11 refers to the application number relevant to the previous visa application (visa was granted). What is this and where do I find it? The previous visa sticker has what I assume to be the visa number - UK ------ F - imprinted and a string of other characters which seem to be related to the passport number. Written by hand, above the sticker, is a 6-digit number (written so badly that it is just about unreadable). Is this the application reference number?

A query to the UK Embassy has only caused more confusion as they say that the reference number should be in the form LETTER + 5 or 6 DIGITS. I don't see anything like that anywhere in the passport!

Anyone know?

I've requested further clarification from the Embassy but they're soooo slow to reply and we want to submit the papers next week.

I wouldn't worry about it. It will be evident from both the passport and the embassy's records that your wife has had a previous visit visa. They're not going to refuse her application solely because she hasn't supplied a previous reference number.

Scouse.

Thanks for that bit of re-assurance. Not really worried but I always like to get things right, especially when dealing with bureaucrats. Must be a symptom of being in Thailand too long!

I'll just give them both the numbers as there's room in the box.

The current version of VAF01 does ask some rather vague questions. Having done a successful application before I can get my head round most of it but I do wonder just how well the uninitiated cope with these things. Maybe this is why the rip-off visa agents are still making a healthy living.

On the top right hand corner of my gf visa was a number starting with 'UK' then six numbers then a final letter. I just copied that down nobody queried it and she got her new visa ok.
