According to a Bangkok Post report, deputy government spokesperson Traisuree Taisaranakul says the order comes from the PM, as a result of a spike in cases following the Songkran holiday. “Covid-19 cases have been on the rise since the Songkran festival last month, and the numbers look set to increase as Thailand is about to enter the rainy season, which is also known as the start of the flu season.” Full story: https://phuket-go.com/phuket-news/national-news/thai-schools-to-re-introduce-disease-precautions-as-covid-cases-rise/ -- © Copyright Phuket GO 2023-05-09 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Popular Post TallGuyJohninBKK Posted May 9, 2023 Popular Post Posted May 9, 2023 Would have been nice if the OP article here actually included the details of the government's latest report (out yesterday) on the numbers of new COVID hospitalizations and deaths. 1 1 1
Popular Post TallGuyJohninBKK Posted May 9, 2023 Popular Post Posted May 9, 2023 The U.S. CDC hasn't had new weekly COVID hospitalizations rise 10-fold since the start of April, as Thailand has.... along with various other countries in SE Asia having similar surges in COVID cases. Thailand's dealing with Thailand's situation, and not what is or isn't going on elsewhere in the world. Thailand new weekly COVID hospitalizations and deaths -- April 2-8. Popular Post anrcaccount Posted May 9, 2023 Popular Post Posted May 9, 2023 There is no rational justification for masking children at this point in the pandemic. Indefensible. Simply astounding that this is being reported. 23 1 2 1 4 6

Please cease with the unsourced and unsubstantiated conspiracy theories. and please cease the fear mongering. as you linked. hospitalizations have declined and deaths have remained flat. the post covid *surge* is over and was not much at all really. there has been enough time pass now since songkran for the spread to show that it was not much of a concern as compared to what it was a long time ago. 17 2 3 6

Kids are not being hospitalized or dying from Covid. Of course the COVID hospitalization and death numbers are relevant... for this reason. School age children, these days amid Omicron, are at a relatively low risk for serious health problems themselves from COVID... BUT..... Thais often tend to live in multi-generational homes. So the bigger risk is Junior catches COVID at school where it's spreading, goes home, and spreads it to Thai grandpa and grandma, and THEY end up in the hospital with COVID... The authorities are correct to be mindful of the risks of COVID spreading among school age children. 1 4 3 4
TallGuyJohninBKK Posted May 9, 2023 Posted May 9, 2023 I didn't see the OP article saying anything specific about masking. 1

I think it's a fair guess that's it back to masking - if they ever stopped tbf, but patman30 doesnt mention anything specific either, but even if it's social distancing, stupid blue pipes and cellophane, removal of PE class, gloving in the canteen, face visors, weekly ATK tests or whatever 2021 crap revomitted - it isn't needed, the suffering and disruption to normal schooling has to stop. 5 1 2

But I understand a lot of expats here like to express their venting outrage these days for anything related to COVID. I prefer to save my outrage for the fact that people continue to die and be hospitalized due to COVID... and not the public health measures aimed at reducing or preventing those deaths and hospitalizations. 3 1 2 2

TallGuyJohninBKK Posted May 9, 2023 Posted May 9, 2023 Most Thais here seem to do fairly well with common sense precautions aimed at reducing/preventing COVID, unlike too many farangs here... And the Thai Ministry of Public Health continues to recommend common sense measures for the general public, as illustrated below: https://www.facebook.com/thaimoph/posts/pfbid0UKMFdYjynfhYtv1q8QHVbAcigBQd7ziMcxPCwkKmTvST4M3YwwEU33zW16GQqrrql 1 2 1 1
