SETV = Single entry tourist visa. 

Okay thanks for the info. I thought re-entry permits are for people on retirement visa's who want to leave thailand and return.

Folk with tourist visa sometimes need/want to exit for few days and return.

You can buy a reentry permit to keep your permission of stay valid.

Obtain at airport on departure or immigration office anytime.

Yes, only single entry tourist visas are available.

Avoid trying in Jakarta. Your application has a good chance of being denied.

To apply in Vientiane, you need an appointment. Apply for this well ahead of time.
