After school shooting, Tennessee governor signs bill to protect gun firms

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee has signed off on additional protections for gun and ammunition dealers, manufacturers and sellers against lawsuits within a bill that lawmakers passed after a deadly school shooting in March.

 

The Republican governor quietly signed the legislation Thursday. Its provisions kick in on July 1.

 

The state Senate gave final passage to the bill in mid-April, just weeks after the March 27 shooting at The Covenant School in Nashville that killed six people, including three 9-year-olds.

Catching killers makes more sense than protecting companies that have nothing to do with the killing.

 

Besides providing the guns, how are they in need of protection?

One should read the article in full to understand what the bill that the Governor decided to "veto" is about. I say "veto" in a liberal manner. He basically protected gun makers and gun shops from lawsuits.

Examples of previous lawsuits which companies or shops had to settle in litigation:

-gun-making company aiming at younger, at-risk males to buy their products

-shop selling ammunition to people without verifying them

 

The lawsuits were correct IMO, and TN made a step to protect businesses not people. To go after the shooters after the fact, as you seem to welcome, does not bring lives back does it.

and yet, that's one of 2 states I lived in and made the most money toward early retirement.  

 

Doesn't matter what state, born, raised in, worked in, or lived in.

Do the < 0.004% of population really need all this attention & protection.  Especially since most know their assailant.

 

IMHO, better time and resources can be spent elsewhere that can actually make a difference.

The reason it is done "quietly" is that even in Tn polls show that the majority of people want stricter gun controls but the repubs don't give a crap about what the people want as the suck up to the NRA and gun lobbyists.  Thoughts and prayers don't stop bullets.  Thoughts and prayers don't stop mentality sick people from  buying and using guns to kill kids and anyone else they choose.

 

Thoughts and prayers is code for "we are spineless wimps" scared to death that we might upset

our right wing base.
