Pheu Thai insists the House speaker should represent all, not just one party

The Pheu Thai party has maintained that the House speaker must represent all people and should push for the implementation of the policies of the coalition government, not just one particular party.

The party’s statement, which was issued today (Friday) on the party’s Facebook page, was seen as a response to the statement yesterday by Move Forward deputy leader Sirikanya Tansakul that the party stands firm on its demand for the House speakership, because it wants to push its 45 draft bills through parliament.

Among these draft bills are a bill to amend the lèse majesté law, a bill to replace mandatory conscription with voluntary enlistment, a bill to dissolve the Internal Security Operations Command, eight bills relating to the rights and liberties of the people, eight bills on land reform, bills to revoke martial law and emergency decrees, an amnesty bill for political cases and a bill for decentralisation of administration.

Maybe best solution is let the parliament vote for it...Pheu Thai shows they are bad losers, and want to have the key positions, but the House Speaker with 45 bills to pass don't reflect the agreement of Pheu Thai?? What do they want to add or scrap in that case?

They have already made their agreement how to form a coalition, what the coalition will focus on etc.

Maybe if Pheu Thai openly stated which of these draft bills they may have an issue with so the public can fully understand them.

Otherwise let MFP have the speaker position without questions of PT being rough shod over..

It's looking more and more likely with each passing day that PT will join up with BJT.

PT had the most seats in the last election (2019) but the speaker of the house came from the Democrat party who  came 4th. They didn't even get the chance to form a government as the largest party, so it is understandable why their noses are out of joint.  So there we have it, the party with the most seats does not always assume the speaker of the house position.

That being said, globally the situation is different. In most parliaments around the world, the speaker comes from the largest party.

PT & MF cannot do anything without each other. They should put aside their bickering, share the two top posts (prime minister & speaker) and get on with forming the next government.

But PT is not being given any rough treatment. Move Forward won the most seats therefore they appoint the speaker, very straight forward so that they are in the correct positioning to implement their promises to the public,  very obvious.

But of course PT feel entitled to something special outside of the norm.

Stop being sore losers PT.

Nothing more than run of the mill haggling and horse trading between coalition partners.

Odds are PT want something other than the Speaker’s position - probably economic / financial ministries and this is just a negotiating tactic.

The policies they are promoting are good for the nation, including the one we cannot discuss.

Yeah. It had to come around eventually - for the greater benefit of the commons.

Yes, of course. But focus on what?

Petty in house squabbling, projected vested interests, control for power and the usual political rhetoric........or actually doing the work for the people?

One party can not do nothing whiteout the other party , they are condemned  to each-other .......so a "kingmaker " can not become excluded ......so arguing makes only Prayut smiling .....
