Ukraine would still be existing today if it had stayed neutral. Hopefully other currently neutral countries would learn from this disastrous mistake.

Tell that to Austria, Yugoslavia, Greece, Poland and many other countries that still exist thanks to the Brits and the US intervention in WWII.

Yeah, they learned the fastest way to getting invaded is staying neutral too long. TLDR; "whatever vatnik".

And when was THAT? And what was result of that HELP ??

If I have to remind you of the current EU fiasco of the Russian unprovoked invasion of Ukraine; let's try the Balkans in the 1990's, or, or, or...have a nice day and hope your memory returns soon.

Can't imagine why the Americans would want a Naval base in Thailand - the Gulf of Thailand is shallow and any base would be easily bottled up. The whole point of their massive aircraft carrier fleet is to remove the need for vulnerable land airbases.

U-tapao used to be a secret US base, no?
for their nuclear submarines…

It is a bit inland for that.

It was built as a US Air Force B52 bomber base during the Vietnam War.

The whole point of nuclear submarines is that they stay at sea, undetected, in deep open water, for months at a time. Their cross country performance is very limited.

Let them put their base in Pattaya. The soldiers will be happy to have a large choice of LB  and the hefty US military police presence on Walking street when the boys are out in town, will perhaps be nore efficient to calm down the rowdy crowd in Patts ?

I cannot believe all the comments on this board. The US are clearly warmongers and start almost all the wars in the world. They are itching to start a war with China because China is threatening economic superiority sometime this century. Why on earth would Thailand want a US base here? It would only make them a target in a war. Let the US fight its own war and leave Thailand out of it. The US has 800 military bases around the world. China has one.

The other thing is that once you have a military base here you can never get rid of it? You can't expel than or ask them to leave. Look at Okinawa if you don't believe me. Or Diego Garcia, where the supposed upholders of rules based world order, have had two judgements of the International Court against them, but they still won't leave and let the Chagossians have return to their homes (the US kicked the local population off the island when they built the base). The island is actually owned (stolen) by the other world warmonger, the UK.

Sinful, lawless and shameless, stealing an indigenous people's land in this day and age.

why would they want a US base ? Simple, like many other backword east european countries....for the money it brings.

Better US than China I always say,

anyways Thailand already has got joint military exercises with US and also receives US military aid. A few bases would be natural progression. They had that during the Vietnam War so it’s nothing new.
We all need the US to protect everyone from the new evil axis (China + Russia)

Ignorant?  I'm fully aware of the fact that Ukraine is not part of this topic.  Are you?

Aahhh.

This brings back memories of the 2008 Preah Vihear Temple border dispute between Thailand and Cambodia in the lead up to the coup that bought Abhisit to power. Ultra nationalist stirring up trouble to oust an elected government. Won’t work again.

Don't bet on it

The US air bases in Thailand were needed for the carpet bombing of Indochina but the US has no current need for anything in Thailand. Fake news.

You do know US used to have a secret naval base at U tapao for their subs?
(back then U tapao was the name of the naval base/ port and Sattahip was the airforce/ airstrip)
