SETV in Vientiane after long stay in Thailand.

You can try. If you have never previously had a tourist visa from Vientiane (visible in your current passport) and meet all the requirements, you might get lucky. Your chances are not good, and you should decide what you are going to do if the application for a tourist visa is denied. Since you have already burned your land based visa exempt entries, your options will be limited. Perhaps, spend a month in Laos and then fly from Luang Prabang to Chiang Mai. Trying to enter visa exempt through either Bangkok airport is very likely to result in a denied entry.

Would having a history of COVID extensions effect an application for an education visa at a legitimate school?

I totally concur with what Brit Tim says.. You will NOT get a tourist visa in Savannakhet and in fact you won't even get in the gate once they see your entry/stay history. They are turning away DROVES

I do not expect that it would. Let us know if an application for a Non Ed visa in Vientiane is rejected.

ketilnm,  Did you apply in Vientiane? What did you do?

Others are in a similar situation.

Please update. Thanks!

180 days in your whole life?

Many countries have this rule. 180 days in one year. Same with Paris Thai Embassy. Worse, for Brits coming to EU Europe there is 90 day rule in 6 months, so total 180 days in 365 a year.,

I posted this early in your thread..

"Been in Thailand ongoing 17 months.

Please update with what happens re Vientiane.

I wouldn't do it."

OP, you made a good call and imo dodged a bullet.

Read back in thread there was troll stating "stand your ground " etc.

Turned out to be Russian.

I think I know who you're talking about. Why do you think he's a troll? He was talking from his experience.

180 days in a 365 day period? Or in your whole life?

I just got a tourist visa in Vientiane after 3+ years in Thailand and multiple covid extensions and border runs.

Most of that period has been due covid.

With all the "covid extensions" and amnesty.

Try doing the same over next year period.

Many posts such as this ignoring covid

Current threads are about future situation where past few years irrelevant.

Is the 180 days in one year reset on 1st Jan and only apply to a calendar year? Say you stay 180 days from July to December in the previous year for example.

Are there big queues in Vientiane? Do they issue it the same day or how many days later after submitting?

There are no queues because they require an online appointment. The visa processing takes two days.

Ok thanks. How many days in advanced do you need to make an online appointment and do these online appointments fill up very quickly?

There is often a need to book an appointment three weeks or more ahead (especially if you want to avoid staying in Vientiane over the weekend). Book an appointment early.
