Theerayut lodged his petition, which accuses MFP of violating Section 49. This law prohibits people from using citizens’ liberties and rights to overthrow the monarchy.

So, now they are not just petitioning to have Pita disqualified, they want the whole MFP disbanded. History repeats itself.

For easy reference, the following is an English translation of the text of Section 49 of the Constitution:

Quote

Section 49. No person shall exercise the rights or liberties to overthrow the democratic regime of government with the King as Head of State.
Any person who has knowledge of an act under paragraph one shall have the right to petition to the Attorney General to submit a motion to the Constitutional Court for an order to cease such act.

Thailand's leading prime ministerial candidate Pita Limjaroenrat said on Tuesday he has enough support in the upper house to become the country's next premier, just days ahead of the new parliament's first session

Guess not; just saw on the local news today--28 Jun 1700, the senate didn't vote him in. The plot thickens.

Rumour has it watchman didn't go to the UK to see a dog show he held a secret meeting with Thaksin about becoming PM--watchman not Thaksin. Another Thaksin puppet in the works, similar to his sister, and we all know how well that worked.

I can understand if Thais lose faith in the election process; the candidate they voted for is voted out by the senate. Why doesn't the senate just pick a PM? Sarcasm
