HappyExpat57
In its infancy, it was MySpace on steroids. It was used as intended, and basically allowed family and friends to stay in touch, instantly and for free. Then politics and bad intentions grew, festered, and now it's become a dangerous weapon of misinformation. The people who are supposed to monitor and protect the world from such threats are ignorant and woefully ill prepared to handle the challenge. For the life of me, I don't see a solution. This world has become so splintered and inhumane, and Facebook has been a major influence in doing this.

It is merely the, actually a, platform and a victim of people abusing it. With billions around the world using it, it is impossible to check every message sent. It was, as you pointed out, a useful medium in the beginning. But, whatever humans invent, it very quickly becomes corrupted. It's just the way humans are. The latest is AI, which some are now using to make deadly chemicals even more deadly, to use in warfare. Aren't we a great species.

So you haven't heard anything about the algorithms Facebook employed to stoke anger because it helped their bottom line? $$$$$$ "That means Facebook for three years systematically amped up some of the worst of its platform, making it more prominent in users’ feeds and spreading it to a much wider audience. The power of the algorithmic promotion undermined the efforts of Facebook’s content moderators and integrity teams, who were fighting an uphill battle against toxic and harmful content." No, my friend, they were very instrumental in creating an antagonistic environment. https://www.niemanlab.org/2021/10/more-internal-documents-show-how-facebooks-algorithm-prioritized-anger-and-posts-that-triggered-it/
spidermike007
Always keep in mind Cambodia is an outlaw nation, run by an ex Pol Pot maniac, who has stolen billions, has his opponents killed and has a private security detail of 5,000 men. Hun Sen has been pulling the wool over the eyes of the West for a long time now. Just ask any of his political opponents such as Sam Rainsy, who they are trying to frame for crimes very much like the massive land grabs Hun Sen commits daily. Prominent Cambodian opposition figure Sam Rainsy on Friday denounced elections in July as a farce after the sole opposition party was disqualified, and derided long-ruling Prime Minister Hun Sen's plan for his son to succeed him in power. "Now even the facade of democracy has collapsed in Cambodia," Sam Rainsy told Reuters on the sidelines of an event on electoral and press freedom in Jakarta. https://apnews.com/hub/sam-rainsy

Mr Dome
Some people here are missing the background story: "... hours after Meta's oversight board ruled that he should face a six-month ban from the platform over a video post in which he threatened to have opponents beaten." Anyway, the useful idiots - FB - weren't supposed to apply rules to him just the ones he wants to silence. https://www-buzzfeednews-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/www.buzzfeednews.com/amphtml/meghara/facebook-cambodia-democracy?amp_gsa=1&_js_v=a9&usqp=mq331AQIUAKwASCAAgM%3D#amp_tf=From %1%24s&aoh=16882515641072&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&share=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.buzzfeednews.com%2Farticle%2Fmeghara%2Ffacebook-cambodia-democracy
Bday Prang
The young and the gullible are all to easily indoctrinated, The biased censorship of facebook and others is not helping anybody discuss and debate matters openly . The fear of causing "offence" which is often used to excuse this, is nothing other than a distraction and a tactic to suppress what is for some a rather unpalatable truth
