Rosuvastatin in Thailand

So until now I was buying Rosuvastatin made by Sandoz and it works well for my cholesterol. Now the couple of usual pharmacies that I use (include the online Medisafe) telling me they are out of stock. Not sure if this is temporary or if it was discontinued? In any case they offer me Vivacor brand instead but I cant find any information on this. I know that these are many generic versions of rosuvastatin but I want to make sure is a reputable manufacturer and not something fake or of questionable quality. Pricing seems to be close to Sandoz...

Statins are largely interchangeable but they are not all the same dosage. If you are living here, go to the local government hospital and get on whatever the local choice is. It will be easier and much cheaper.

I might have a good pharmacy in Bkk.

Statin Atorvastatin is double dose.

So 10mg Rosu. equalls 20mg A.

Anyways Crestor is also an even better option.

PM me for hint pharmacy in Bkk or i can manage in worst case.

Not necessarily cheaper, not in my case, and about 4-6X as much, govt hosp vs online or local phaemacy.

I forget how, as I've had one ... almost forever.

Sorry, not helpful, but didn't won't to ignore your query.

You have to create an account. No idea why you cannot but note that membership is restricted to health professionals.

As others have said Vivacor is just a different imported brand name for Rosuvastatin.  Therd are also locally made versions which usually cost less.

Why was Crestor taken off the market?

Crestor interacted dangerously with the blood-thinner Coumadin, commonly used by heart-disease patients; one Crestor-Coumadin interaction resulted in a hemorrhage. Some studies show that only one-tenth of the actual cases are reported to the FDA. The fact that so few patients on the 20 or 40 mg.

There are a lot of statins to choose from. I’ve been on atorvastatin for years. But why are you bringing these questions here? You need to be asking a doctor.

It's made by AstraZeneca. I wouldn't doubt it's not same quality as Sandoz ????

As it happens your link does not contain information that I needed, which is the manufacturer, as I did not want something made by some unknown small company. The more detailed information that I needed as it happens is only accessible in a website that requires an account which I don't have and several members have kindly provided it.

I am not looking for medical advice, rosuvastatin was prescribed to me by a bumrungrad cardiologist but since I am buying it outside the hospital I am on my own as far as making sure I am getting a good quality medication. Sandoz is a good compromise for me, is cheaper than the original brand (crestor) but is made by a reputable company and apparently works well for me based on blood test results. Vivacor is apparently made by Astrazeneca which is the original maker of crestor so now I know there is no issue about quality and is only about 300 baht more expensivesonir will do until I can get ahold of Sandoz again

This year a group was asking for Crestor to be removed from the US market, but apparently that has not happened. What's odd is that the group was complaining about a recently approved Crestor. Maybe that concerned an approval for a new pediatric treatment which Astra Zeneca was claiming would entitle it to prolong it's exclusivity for adult usage, but the FDA rejected that gambit.

Crestor has actually been around since around 2003. It is the brand product of the drug rosuvastatin. I just bought Crestor in a pharmacy in CM.

Crestor has NOT been taken off the market.

It is still on the market as are many other brands of the same drug.

A large number of drugs interact with coumadin (warfarin).  That is never a reason to take something off market. Rather a reason to caution people on coummadin to be wary of interactions.  Not only with other drugs but also with some foods.

The local brands of rosuvastin are not made by "unknown" companies but by well known local pharm companies. These are of course smaller than the big internationals bug they are well  known iN SE Asua and regulated.

I use Simvastatin 10mg, trade name Bestatin. Have done for years. Cheapest I could find. My heart specialist at BHP knows and is quite happy with my choice. I buy all my drugs at Fascino.

Manufactured by Berlin Pharmaceutical. No side effects and my Cholesterol levels are fine. Berlin also manufactures my Caraten as well.
