37 days stay in Thailand possible with ticket out of Thailand?

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

hopefully you guys can help me here and give me some advice and share your experiences!

I have a ticket from Zurich to BKK on 31st of July and a return flight on 7th Septmeber. I will be staying for more than 30 days, which I would be allowed to stay with a visa on arrival on a German passport.
I called my embassy to check what options I have. They advised me to either get a tourist visa or to a flight out of Thailand to show a the immigration. Later, I could get an extemtion on my arrival visa.
OK so far...
I decided to get a ticket to Vientianne that shows that I will be leaving Thailand after about 3 weeks.

Since I have had some nasty surprises when it came to airlines not taking me on board because I had no return or onward ticket, I wanted to make sure that all my travel documents are in order and that there will be no prblems checking in and entering Thailand. However, Thai Airways is giving me a hard time and they refuse to confirm that they would take me on board. They tell me to contact immigration and the website I bought the ticket from. Fact is, they will be resposible to take my along and dedicing if travel documents are in order is their daily business.

I am a bit worried that they won't take me on board...

Quick summary:
Gemran Passport
Flight booked in and out of Thailand (37 days os stay in total),

flight form Don muaeng to Vietianne after 3 weeks of being in Thailand.

What is your experience these days with Thai Airways and do I worry for no reason?

Is the information concerning the extemption of the visa on arrivel valid?
How many days of stay would I get if I returned from Laos to Thailand over land?

Thank you very much in advance!

Manis

You should have posted prior to buying onward flight.

In any event your best option would have been to fly to Thailand visa exempt for 30 day entry stamp and prior to expiry obtain 30 day extension.

Simple process at immigration office. 1900baht.

If you decide to go to Laos and return via land border you would receive 30 day stamp.

Unless you have desire to visit Laos then the option you outline is crazy

If refused boarding pass at departure he could have stepped away from counter and booked a "rent a ticket" .

Popular site is "onwardticket.com"

Takes a minute. $12usd.

However most likely not required as he has return ticket at 37days.

Many reports of airline accepting explanation of intention to obtain 30 day extension especially with return flight to show.

In the situation you describe, all airlines have the right, but not the obligation, to deny a boarding pass.

Thats what I said

The ?? was in response to the previous posters misinformation

Out of interest the $2,000 immigration Airline fine for non acceptance upon arrival (anywhere) has risen now up to a maximum of $10,000 fine

The onward ticket scam I was only reading couple weeks ago on big flyer forum is being heavily sanitised because of the increased potential fines to the airlines

Check in staff "know" exactly what the ticket presented "is" but choose to ignore it on the basis I've done my job at check in...not any more it would appear

I'm keeping an eye on the situation as wanted to potentially make use of it myself later this year

That would be my post.

I explained the options to cover onward flight requirements.

Buy a throw away flight.

Use site such as "onwardticket.com"

Have a return flight outside of 30 days however explaining intention to obtain 30 day extension.

Ask for supervisor and sign a waiver.

All of which have been reported with success in recent times.

I have never read a report of airline refusing the "rent a flight" option.

To the contrary recent reports of no issue.

Even if there was ...step away and book throw away.

eg Bangkok to Saigon 1500 baht. Takes one minute.

Post a refused entry when using options I outlined.

Just Scaremongering

Some confused emoji from some folk unfamiliar with options.

One more question.

Do I have to do the extention in Bangkok or can I go to any other immigration in the country?

You can apply for 30 day extension at immigration where you are staying.

Does not not need to be Bangkok.

Prior to attending immigration you need to obtain  TM30 from the hotel where you are staying.

If you are staying with eg friends you need to clarify.

Yes.

You have flight to Laos already so some posts including mine are off topic.

A screenshot of your flight within the 30 days will satisfy airline.

You will be fine. You can choose whether to extend your 30-day visa exempt entry at Immigration (1,900 baht) or to take the flight you purchased to Vientiane (US$40 for a visa on arrival to Laos and other costs). Your choice.

It is true that there were cheaper ways of achieving your objective, but it is pointless to worry about that now..

Why didn't you get one? It's easy to get one and then no headache.

Why make it complicated if there is an easy option?

They advised to obtain a SETV or visa exempt with extension.

The latter would be popular choice.
