Bangkok police have declared an area within 50 metres of the parliament building off-limits, in anticipation of a mass protest by supporters of the Move Forward party, who are expected to rally to offer moral support to Pita Limjaroenrat, the party leader, when parliament is scheduled to select Thailand’s 30th prime minister tomorrow (Thursday).

The announcement, signed by commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, Pol Lt-Gen Thiti Sangsawang, issued by virtue of the Public Assemblies Act, became effective at 6am this morning and lasts until midnight on July 15th.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has opened its administrative centre at Kiak Kai, which is close to parliament, to accommodate the Move Forward party supporters. It has also arranged for mobile toilets and tents for the demonstrators, who are expected to turn out in force.

Police reinforcements on standby in Bangkok to deal with rally on Thursday

Bangkok police have put reinforcements on standby, including rapid mobile units and vehicles, to cope with the situation tomorrow (Thursday), when supporters of the Move Forward party are expected to rally near parliament as MPs and senators are due to select the new prime minister.

Spokesman for the Royal Thai Police, Pol Lt-Gen Archayon Kraithong, said today that Pol Gen Roy Ingkapairote, the deputy national police chief in charge of security affairs, has been appointed to oversee security, traffic management and the overall situation in and around parliament.

He said that, if the demonstrators spill onto the road from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s Kiak Kai administrative centre, which can accommodate only about 500 people, the police will make adjustment to their plan and increase space for the demonstrators.

Every MFP voter should have been in Bangkok today... to show these puppets who really runs the country.

If the Constitutional court kicks out Pita every worker in Thailand should have a sit-in strike..

no work for anyone until he's reinstated.

I'd give a couple of days and the regime would crumble.

Power back to the people.

I can't agree more... make the senators EC members and judges and their companies loose money, stop the country working and things will change...and not only in Bangkok but all over the country every place... The problem is that because of the Thai culture people are brainwashed to do as their boss tel them, but if this time they don't listen nothing will happen to them, except maybe no payment....

If the EC and the senators keep up their games, an off limit zone will be the least of their worries. How about their homes? How about everyplace they go? Mess with the people at your own peril, this time. Everything has changed. Nobody is in the mood to have the will of the people denied. Prepare for the worst, if you goons play games with the vote.

The problem is that the goons have tanks and water cannon with an irritant added to the water, and bigger guns than those illegally knocked up in Somchai's garage. Riots rarely if ever achieve anything, anywhere. After a few days, after protesters have burned down their own neighborhood and then find they have nowhere to shop anymore, they all fade away. At least in Thailand they keep up the fight for weeks or months, but at the end of it all history has shown that they don't really achieve anything.

Indeed that is why tougher actions are needed... no pain no gain...Massive disobedience and disrespect, they never can lock up everybody, block the enterprises of the people involved, stop working.. Look how other western countries are doing like France, The Netherlands, the UK, and yes it takes time, but they achieved things...Stupid idea only areas where you are allowed to protests.. don't ask permissions, take the streets, keep it peaceful and gather with tens of thousands turn the whole country upside down , the police and the army can't do anything than. Or do you believe that military and poilce will shoot their family and friends?? Unite is the solutions to tackle this kind of practice

If people in Thailand don't work they don't get paid. They don't receive riot leave pay. Bearing in mind that we often read of the debt burden that Thais carry (often no doubt because of buying things they can't afford so that they gain face) then they can't afford to stop working for the weeks and months it would take to make (or not make) a difference.

I know... but what is the alternative??? a bloodshed by fighting?? If you want to achieve things you have to sacrifice, whatever it is... in every aspect of your life... sickness, sport, as examples and now for sake of your future...

History does not apply, hopefully. Historically there has been a sort of moral authority. Gone. Historically, the people rarely experienced an economic decimation, brought on deliberately by a very callous army administration, that favored cronies over the people during a pandemic.

And historically, with the possible exception of Abhisit, there has never been a youthful leader who inspires the kind of hope the nation needs right now.

Everything has changed.
