The traversing of a US Navy patrol plane into the sensitive Taiwan Strait within international airspace on Thursday led to China scrambling its fighter jets.

The event coincided with China’s ongoing military exercises, now in their third day, conducted to the south of Taiwan.

The escalation of tensions between Taiwan and China come as US secretary of state Antony Blinken held a meeting with Chinese diplomat Wang Yi in Jakarta on Thursday on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) summit.

According to a statement from the US Navy’s 7th Fleet, a P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft, that is utilised for anti-submarine operations, traversed the Taiwan Strait within the international airspace.

“By adhering to international law and operating within the Taiwan Strait, the United States reaffirms its commitment to protecting the navigation rights and freedoms of all nations,” the statement said.

Why imagine? China and Russia both have surveillance from outside the 12 mile limit, in submarines, balloons, spy planes, etc. Oh wait, the last balloon was shot down because it violated the 12 mile limit.

Exactly!  Just like the US spitting the dummy over Soviet  nukes in Cuba during the crisis but couldnt see anything wrong with its own nukes in Turkey pointed at Russia lol!  Two faced hypocrits who are going to get burnt like they did in Afghanistan if they keep stirring!

The mistakes to not have nuked that place off the planet can be seen today. The USSR  or the USA should have done it.

Business as usual ,personality I’d love to see an large international naval force to travel through the strait show the flag of democracy in strength

Everyone hates America and Americans. Wait until your Chinese brothers are standing at the door. You will welcome them in with open arms and enjoy their comforting embrace. Social media is full of armchair warriors and extremely intelligent academics. Personally, I like late night walks on the beach, puppy dogs and world peace. May the GODS protect us all.

All these guys like ThaiFelix supporting China and hating America while comfortably enjoying all that America provides for them.  They probably won't live long enough to see in the next 20-30 years what a China dominated world is like, but I wish they would.

Actually, you got the history wrong. The US agreed to withdraw its nukes in Turkey in exchange for Russia withdrawing its nukes in Cuba.

"No one was sure how Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev would respond to the naval blockade and US demands. But the leaders of both superpowers recognized the devastating possibility of a nuclear war and publicly agreed to a deal in which the Soviets would dismantle the weapon sites in exchange for a pledge from the United States not to invade Cuba. In a separate deal, which remained secret for more than twenty-five years, the United States also agreed to remove its nuclear missiles from Turkey."

I don't understand why you think Afghanistan is applicable to this situation.

And you don't understand how, by claiming that the South China Sea is virtual Chinese lake,  unpopular China has made itself very unpopular with  nations bordering on the South China Sea.

The US inflaming tensions again as it plays self appointed world police.

Biden needs to fix our issues at home instead of stoking tensions overseas.
