Social Media Posted July 23, 2023 Posted July 23, 2023 China has sent nearly 40 warplanes toward Taiwan just days before the island plans to hold military exercises to practise defending itself from a potential invasion. Taiwan is set to conduct annual military exercises next week, including combat readiness drills, and to prepare its civilians for evacuations in the case of a possible air raid. The evacuation exercise has drawn attention because it represents a significant departure from previous years – while normally people are just asked to go indoors for 30 minutes while the air raid sirens sound, this week police will escort anyone out on the street at the time of the drill to their nearest bomb shelter. The drills are also covering a much greater sample of the population than previously, covering districts that account for a combined three million of Taiwan’s 23 million people, according to the Financial Times. JohnOFphon Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 If Taiwan is upset about the Chinese military flying or sailing in their area, why don't THEY do something about it? Not just wait for another country to come fight for them? 5 4 1

Not just wait for another country to come fight for them? Probably because the Taiwanese really don't care, and like things just the way they are. One party getting financial support to 'change' the minds, and it's not working ... IMHO Some would think, inclusive, all this is the typical stir up the doom & gloom scenarios from outside agitators, for their own financial (defense contracts) interests. A big nothing, except for headlines, as CH & Taiwan and too intertwined economically to change anything. Benefits nobody. 2 1 1

China plays the long, intelligent game. The US on the other hand gets heavily involved until it all becomes too difficult, or a different party is elected and changes direction. Then they simply pull out leaving a huge mess behind them. Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan are good examples. China won't be too worried about the US. If they can't/won't defend Ukraine they're hardly going to go out on a limb for Taiwan. Joe would do well to sit down somewhere quiet. He's still struggling to remember the rules of Checkers, the Chinese mastered Chess generations ago. 1 1 2

Oddly, the arrival of Biden in the White House was a reversal in the freehand China had previously been allowed. 1 1 1 1
