He was openly corrupt. He was corrupt with that attitude "and what will you do about it?". When he was in power he behaved like he was above the law, and he got away with that for a couple of years. And then he didn't get away with is anymore.

Others are obviously also corrupt. But not as much in your face like Thaksin.

His resignation will see many PPRP MPs join PTP. That may tilt the votes for PTP’s nomination for PM. Thaksin is engineering all the moves towards a successful PTP’s coalition government with Sretha as the Prime Minister.

Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP) leader General Prawit Wongsuwan said he resigned this morning to allow for the reshuffling of the party executives before being nominated back to the leadership position.

 

Prawit also appointed Patcharawat Wongsuwon, his younger brother and former police chief, as the chairperson of the party advisory committee.

 

When asked if the PPRP will vote for Pheu Thai's PM candidate Srettha Thavisin for the upcoming PM voting on August 4, he said he does not know yet, and it will be up to the party's mandate.

 

When asked if he had talked to Thaksin Shinawatra before the Former PM announced that he will return to #Thailand on August 10, he said, "I did not meet with anybody.

The appointment of Pol Gen Patcharawat Wongsuwan as party adviser is interesting. He was appointed Police Chief by Thaksin and was sacked by Ahbisit for his robust handling of PAD protestors. He then appealed and his sacking was overturned by the court. I think it’s building up to the party working with PTP coalition.

Thailand must be one of the few countries where winning popular support from the people in an election more or less guarentees you will not get to govern or have much say in things. In addition , it sends a red flag to the conservatives that here is a party that needs to be suppressed by the courts.

 

 

 

And all the more ironic that, if the U.S. embassy cable leaks can be trusted, the ousting of Thaksin was mainly caused by the establishment's fear of the occurrence of a particular 'ticket'. Someone whose name starts by P must be turning in his grave.

Certainly wouldn't rely on the highly subjective and less than legitimate U.S. mission cable leaks.
