A sacrificial lamb, why he didn't back down and walked into this mess is amazing, the plot thickens, the Jet is on the runway, but I'm still thinking Anutin will surface as PM, maybe not now, however it's looking like the pardon is on. 

That may make the people happy, and dull protests, possibly the sale of whyskey and cigars and incense may boom.

This was probably planned for a long time. Look when Thakky announced his return. He would not have done this to go straight to jail.

Life entails compromise and patience while always keeping in mind 'I may be wrong'. MFP has decided in this instance to die for a cause instead of living for it.

Of course it may be clever political move, if they assumed that Pita stood no chance of being PM in this constellation no matter what they did then it is better to go down with all flags flying, to rise again later like a virgin birth, "Pure and resolute that we are, we, unlike others, stood by our principles." They may indeed be better at horse trading than I first thought.

Actually, this time I have hope for the future of Thai politics.

Not for the next weeks, but for the next election, after the current senators are gone. And I would be surprised if we have to wait 4 years for that.

By now more and more voters understand who to vote for if they want progress. And many want progress.

The disappointment may be large in one camp while there is relief in the other. I don't know, so I am assuming, that many Thais (if one includes, as one must, the old and middle aged) are traditionalists and that changes to paragraph 112 wasn't popular with them, whoever wins there will always be  losers who will feel disenfranchised (an exaggeration). Whatever system is in place it is never perfect. No system is written in stone and if it were it can be chipped away piece by piece, as is happening now, no need for a bulldozer.

Looks like the Pheu Lie party are showing their true colours in a totally expected move to grab power.

Will probably unite with some of the "Old Guard" that the people of Thailand wanted and voted to get rid of.

PTP have dumped MFP and will form a coalition and I would expect government. PS, in the land of coups, ousting the military once and for all may be too optimistic until a larger proportion of Thai society changes further.  Don't forget, as evidenced by this impasse, the following description is still applicable to a certain degree:

Not really surprised.  Most of the old Red Shirt leadership of the past 1-2 decades have resigned as the Parties have changed direction.  The Pheu Thai Party now is not loner Red Shirt, but Yellow Shirt.

I hold a more cynical view of PT than you do. I think PT leadership resent being usurped by MF in the election. They assumed, somewhat complacently, they had the youth and working class vote in their hands, their constant talk about landslide victory shows that.

Now, I see they're claiming if they can form a government, they will support same sex marriage, abolish conscription and alcohol monopolies.

Haven't they lifted these straight out of MF's election pledges?

So, imo, PT see this as a golden chance to win over the youth from MF, plus keep the working class vote with their 10,000 baht promise for every adult Thai.

But it's a rocky road ahead for PT, their partners include the Democrats, their enemy for decades, Bhumjaithai, corruption galore, how many of their MPs are still not ratified? If I remember right it's 20 or more who could face yellow or red cards.

Then there's a myriad of small parties to please, a headache with a thin majority of 261.

Now MF said they will not vote for Settha on Friday so PT must rely on the senators who have all been chosen by Prayuth or Pravit 

Yet PT want to exclude their parties from their coalition!!

I can't see Settha getting the votes under this formula
