Responding to a viewer's comment about the source material for our Wednesday video about possible retirement visa and annual extension changes, the couple behind the fireworks warehouse have fled to Malaysia, Ashton Asoke have 30 days to find a new access-way to the condo, the vote for a new Thai PM has been postponed as the Constitutional Court ponders Pita's opportunity to stand as PM more than once.

Thaksin will still return on August 10... or maybe not, a Nigerian leads police on a merry car chase around Phuket, ANOTHER drowning this week along Phuket's west-coast, and a German man threatens to jump from a condo as police spend 5 hours talking him down.

Tim Newton Today is a daily take on Thai and regional news and issues of interest to expats and foreign tourists.

OP make some / many people very uneasy or sleepless, for something not yet Confirmed!

Why beat the same horse again and again?

We, who lived here for a long time, have heard same rumors for the last 10+ years.

Until confirmed by admin here, and in the Royal Gazette, I don't worry.

You think a confirmation the paymaster will return on 8 Aug (or any date) must be confirmed by:

a). Admin of this site - how could the admin of this site be able to confirm (absolutely confirm) that he will return on 8 Aug?

b). Appear in the Royal Gazzette. Seems you don't know the reason for existence of the Royal Gazzette. And it's NOT for publishing news of the day etc., and gossip.

Reality is that nobody can confirm anything about his date of return (could also of course be there is no date because he's not prepared to go to jail etc).

It's a wait and see situation regardless of what anybody says.

Further, it's rather tiresome to read again that all of the charges against the paymaster are false charges etc.

'News' based on total proven lies and untruths, conspiracies etc., is for the US, let them play with this stuff.

Meanwhile intelligent folks want to hear their politicians talking facts.

And the facts are that the paymaster wasn't tried in a military kangaroo court and there's plenty of details/actual evidence been published on news sites multiple times.

It wasn't confirmed news by OP,  just another rumor.

Seems you lack comprehension of the difference thereof.

OP was just a repeat of what he already posted earlier.

Rumor.

Not confirmed!

https://thethaiger.com/coronavirus/extension-to-visa-amnesty-to-be-published-in-royal-gazette

Similar to many other visa related articles in Bangkok Post and The Nation, who refer to the Royal Gazette.

So YES, they do actually post important Visa changes, in

The Royal Gazette.

The subject wasn't VISA CHANGES.

Actual changes to VISAS is from government policies /  decisions, approval by cabinet therefore in the Royal Gazzette.

Actual changes to VISAS is not from gossip.

Ongoing on again / off again Statements / comments made by the paymaster etc., re his return to Thailand is not official and is not 'approved' by gov't / cabinet etc.

It's social news / gossip, therefore not in the Royal Gazzette.

The problem isn't with the current requirements, it's with the screening procedures. Changing the regulations won't solve that. Plus, even on this forum people complain about retirees who use agents but the agents arent cheap. Even for the cheapest at 12,500, that comes out to more than $350 and the price can run all the way up to 20,000 or even 30,000, depending on various factors. So it's not like you're getting a great deal.

A smarter thing to do would be to normalize that process. Just charge 15,000 for example for an extension. That would enhance immigration revenues, obviate the need to have 800,000 sitting in the bank doing nothing, and get rid of all this gray area stuff.

The objective should be to simplify the process and take away the discretion immigration officers currently have.

I will never understand their logic. Let’s increase the amount of money that retirees must hold in a bank account and then we will not have any bad farangs. It makes no sense. Just do their jobs and a background check and they would see much better results, but that requires more work and we all know how that goes.

For those concerned about the possible changes to the retirement extensions, see this morning's Pattaya News.

Not sure that I can post the link:

RE Retirement visa changes.

Seems like just another click bait article from you Mr Newton.

Mr Newton does not produce any news articles.. more simply presents ones from other sources and gives commentary on them.  They would be more suitable targets for that comment.

But, retiree's are easy meat so they will go for the low hanging fruit and milk us for more money. The rest is just a smoke screen.

Well it certainly will have "upped the number of hits" on his site, which can hardly have done him any harm!

It also of course gave the usual self righteous enthusiasts a chance to salivate over imagined prospects of people being dragged from their homes and families and thrown into IDC or summarily deported!

= don't base your future around Thai visa rules unless you have extra fat trimmings for all the $$$$ requirements in near future.

This is inevitable as there will be floods of new retirees that can satisfy the 800k requirement at some point - bigger media focus in India etc on retirement visas - then the immigration offices stowed to the gills even more than now...like 3x 4x the numbers.
