Wissanu asks Thaksin not to return on weekends or public holidays

A contingency plan is in place for the possible return of fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra. Whenever Thaksin does return to face legal action, the Thai government has already prepared plans to handle the situation, Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said today (Tuesday).

Authorities concerned, including courts and the Corrections Department are ready, Wissanu said. He did, however, ask Thaksin not to arrive on weekends or public holidays.

“During those days, the courts, which would assign a jail for Thaksin’s detention, would not be working, which would make things difficult as we would have to find detention venue for Thaksin instead,” he said.

Thaksin Only Anticipates Days, Not Months Or Years, In Jail Upon Return
By Thai Newsroom Reporters

Pheu Thai de facto boss/former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra speaks to Reuters during an interview in Singapore. File photo: Reuters and published by Yahoo!News

DE FACTO PHEU THAI BOSS Thaksin Shinawatra has been desperately anticipating a matter of days, not months or years, for himself being put behind bars upon returning home, according to a partisan source.

Thaksin has been impatiently waiting for his party’s rank and file to run the country again so they will almost certainly find ways and means to help him out with his convicted jail term sooner than later, said the source who only spoke on condition that he not be identified.

The globetrotting Thaksin who has recently shown up in Hong Kong and Phnom Penh will not return home as repeatedly heralded until Pheu Thai candidate Srettha Thavisin has been voted the country’s 30th prime minister and his party has completely set up a coalition government.

The deposed prime minister who has been residing in self-exile abroad for the last 17 years following the 2006 coup has postponed his planned homecoming twice since last month with a previous schedule for the upcoming Thursday having been put off for no more than a couple of weeks.

Is it only difficult with this criminal or with all criminals?

Imagine the police catches some criminals on the weekend. No sorry, we can't handle them now. Please wait until Monday when the office opens.

Really?

I suggest: Get in there! Or we throw you in.

I feel that the country is being put through a lot of unnecesary frustration and pain by a convicted egomanian criminal, who believes he's entitled to a speial deal. When right now the country has serious complex problems trying to get a PM elected and seated.

But then we don't know what the paymasters game plan is, without doubt it will be a plan to get him into a position of authority. Thailands trump syndrome.

Given that he was an 'elected' PM and then   convicted and sentenced to jail on several cases by a legitinate court (no folks it wasn't a military kangaroo court) I wonder what the Thai law says  about running for office / holding any future political / bureaucratic positions in the future.

There is a precedent with manarat who did several years time in an OZ jail and prayut claimed 'it wasn't in Thailand so it was nor relevant. A big difference is that the paymaster was a sitting PM in Thailand when he committeed serious offence.

Amnesty, he comes

No amnesty, he wont.

Interresting if the senators will vote for PheuThai by knowing PheuThai will do everything for him.

Sometimes the third becomes the number 1.

Anutin with best strategy so far.

Definitely much more better advisors/strategy as MF.

Yes, and at the same time I have hope for Thailand.

I think what plays out in the moment is very obvious a power struggle. Some politicians want power and money, and they don't care about Thailand and Thais.

How long will they last? How long before the masses will rise up again? How long before the next election?

I am pretty sure not too far in the future Move Forward, or maybe something similar, will win the election and form the government.

Lots of people won't vote for PT anymore. They are very clearly not interested in the people - even the stupid should by now be able to understand that part.

I sit back and look what will happen. And how fast it will happen. The old guard, including Thaksin, have lost. I give them best case a few years and then they will be gone, and nobody will miss them anymore.

Am I right? I don't know. But that is my current prediction.

What do you think?

That reminds me of that guy across the big pond. He fits in into the orange crowd even without wearing any uniform. And until now he gets the VIP treatment.

My reading is Wissanu is telling Thaksin he's going to jail if he comes back.

I read that Thai law stipulates a prisoner has to serve a third of their sentence before they can be considered for a pardon.

Of course this may be overturned by those with the power to do so

Exactly. People are misunderstanding why he said what he said. He just indirectly taunted Thaksin saying "sure come on over, we're ready". The part about the weekends und holidays is to make it sound playful - as if it's not a big deal.

It's the counter-play to Thaksins "I will come to visit my grandchildren" by which he taunts his opponents in power that he is confident he found a solution for his legal probems. Wissanu in return tells him they think otherwise.

It's political poker.

AFAIK, only one person can provide a Pardon.

Justifying a Pardon for a single individual, who was portrayed as an enemy of the state, will require threading a needle.

And please don't arrive in a Rolls Royce with the flag flying.

Oh come on!

Can go online on booking.com and book a suite at the Oriental Bangkok. Might even get a discount.

When you're swimming across the border in shorts and flip flops in the dead of night, the last thing you're asking yourself is "What day is this?"

Never read such drivel in all my life from "A partisan source".

"Thaksin has anticipated himself to be physically contained somewhere in sort of house-arrest fashion where he could possibly literally babysit any of his seven grandchildren after he may have spent a short period of time at Bangkok Remand Prison."

A new journalistic low.

Why the inverted commas around the word elected?

He was democratically elected by large numbers.

Keep em guessing Mr Thaksin. You've got the hate mob on here frothing.

Even 2nd rate Airbnb hosts can manage to offer self-checkin nowadays.

Can't this clown just send Thaksin a prison cell key card for his convenience, should he choose to arrive out of hours?

Sorry, but I just cannot take this "Thaksin returns, no really, just wait for it" farce seriously anymore.

How many times have we been down this road?

If there is even a whiff of political interference ( and being tried and convicted by the Junta government which toppled you is a little bit more than a whiff), Interpol will have nothing to do with it.
