My Fellow Passengers on This Blue Marble:

How many times have we heard about the many talents of London cab drivers?

And, what about the Mystique of NYC’s Butter Boys?

Do you think London cab drivers need to be smarter in order to do their job? Or, does one need to be a lot more street smart to drive a taxi in NYC?

If you have any interest in this topic…

First, Enjoy the music, here:

Second, Answer the question posed in the Topic’s headline in the comments’ section below…

The music is amazing, right?

Regards,

Gamma

Isn't there a forum where "special" people can post drivel?

In my humble opinion, TV is the most special forum for very special people in Thailand.

I am very satisfied with the quality of TV.

Always have been...

Always will be.

I would not change a thing...

My experience with London cab drivers was always good. They got me to my desired destination with a minimum of fuss.

OTOH, I don't think NYC cab drivers knew very much about keeping their vehicles clean on the inside. Or their personal hygiene.

They may well have known a lot about life. One of them informed me he had recently been released from a mental hospital, which did not give me confidence in his competence. He drove like a maniac, as if to prove his former accommodations.

Duuno, but a better question would be do bar girls or architects know more about ceilings ?

Depends on the size of the bar girl and the customer.

I recall in England they had to memorize the entire city, down to most arcane semi-circle dead ends. It was called The Knowledge. But surely GPS has killed that.

It's been 30 years since a salt of the earth white person has been seen driving a cab in either place.

I'm sort of glad that Uber ect. killed them dead. If you've ever tried to hail a cab with a black friend, you know why.

It takes 3+ years to learn "The Knowledge" of 25,000+ Roads/Streets/Mews/Lanes etc as well as 20,000+ Landmarks within a 25 mile radius of Charring Cross, plus a dozen interviews,  (called appearances) before taking your London  Hackney Carriage test.

Compared to NY, where it seams you fill in a form and take a drugs test.

Who knows more about life, the London Cabbie, they have to experience more of life to become one.
