Likely not (they will usually nto even provide a written script when you purchase glasses) and more to the point  the prescriptions issued by most glasses shops in Thailand   are not very reliable and the people doing this are nto really opticians.

You are better off seeing an opthalmologist at a hospital or clinic and getting an overall eye exam inclusive of, but nto limited to, vision tests. This would also help rule out any other problems that may be affecting your vision (cataracts, glaucoma etc)

My GF needed replacement reading glasses for some she had bought at the market for Bht 300 but was getting headaches. She tried various ones and settled on 2.5/2.5.

I have used Zenni in the past, but said to her to get eyes tested properly. Went to local Top Charoen where the girl did a very thorough test, looked inside the eyes etc, and my GF chose a nice frame @ Bht 1950 all in. Ready the next day and perfect. If not 100% happy, will be replaced.

Similar from Zenni, $70 = Bht 2468, plus $20 for shipping, takes about 2 weeks, and if they are not correct.....?

Just broken my existing progressive glasses I bought from a rather overpriced Thai chain shop, so wanted the same order online from Zenni who charge about a quarter the price.

** As I am not experienced can someone tell me if I got the prescription correctly input please? The first (Duna) image above is from Thai shop and works well for me. Below that is what I input on Zenni. The PD of 66 seems to be a carry over from some reading glasses I had from Zenni but the Duna card does not mention PD at all so I left it at 66 on Zenni. So did I get it all OK and I can go ahead with order?

Thanks

You have insufficient data to complete the order. You need your½pd's, which are specific to you, and your OC heights, which are specific to the combination of you and the particular frame. Inattention to these details will be an expensive disaster.... and don't expect any local supplier to have the knowledge.

You missed off the +2.0 for the right eye, last column.

Zenni's instructions say that they only ask for one addition, as it's almost always the same for both eyes (it was for me). I guess if someone has different additions for each eye, they would have to contact the company to ask what to do.

Take note.  At Rutnin and at most hospitals an "Eye Examination" is very different from a "Vision test".

Often, an eye exam does not include a vision test unless you specifically request it and even then, they may tell you you have to schedule a separate vision test.

The Eye Examination at Rutnin focuses on eye disease detection and eye deterioration.  It is a very complete examination.  If you request a vision test, make sure to make it known you want a prescription for glasses and that you want the PD included if you plan on getting progressive lenses.

I've been going to Rutnin for almost 30 years. As long as you tell them you want to update your eyeglass prescription, they'll give you the appropriate exam - I believe it's listed as "refraction" on the ticket. (Rutnin has a kind of "stations of the cross" process where you go from room to room where individual specialists do each test.)

I had an appointment with my retinal doctor at Rutnin a couple of months ago, and asked to add the refraction exam. The guy was very thorough as usual, and the PD was included on the prescription. Note that they don't hand you the prescription; after everything is done and you've paid the bill, you have to go to the optical shop on the ground floor and have them print it out for you. Strange, but not difficult.

After getting the new prescription (only a slight difference from the previous one), I ordered from Zenni for the first time. With every bell and whistle added, they came to about $250, which is still less than I used to pay in Thailand for poorer quality lenses. (The Zenni glasses aren't as good as the ones I got in Korea ten years ago, but those cost over $800...)

Shipping took two weeks. At the end of week one, I got an email telling me the glasses had arrived in Singapore (!). A week later, they arrived in Thailand and were delivered the next day in a mailer showing a return address of Malmo, Sweden (!). No duty or tax was charged.

They are shipping my order to Thailand now - shipping cost is 9USD. I have used them for reading glasses for several years and shipped to Thailand. Takes about 14 days from order to front door delivery. There was a slight delay during the pandemic.

I had my Zenni's sent to my sister in Ohio, USA, then DHL to me here. DHL took her for a ride, charging $189 to ship. Then DHL Tailand wanted a slice of the pie, but I told them no way. They eventually dropped the charges.  Too bad the prescription turned out to be garbage.  PD should carry over from an earlier script. That's the distance between your pupils. That should not change.

I was having a bunch of specialized tests done as follow up for a previous retina problem, so I'm not sure what the cost was of the basic exams - like refraction - that were part of the whole program that day. I seem to recall from friends that a garden variety eye check up, including a new prescription, was about 1500 baht or so.

I need a new pair of glasses and I was considering trying one of the online suppliers.

Please post back when you receive your glasses from Zenni and let us know how it all went.

Total cost of glasses.

Shipping charges.

Time from placing order to receiving glasses.

Much Appriciated!

I got 3 pairs and they are pretty bad but very cheap.

Buy cheap buy dear as my mum says.

Can get promotions at Top Charoern, like I got Gucci frames 4,000 off. Progressive for 9,000 baht.

Thanks for posting how it went. Sounds like you had a good experience, and saved a lot of money over what it would have cost to buy the glasses in Thailand.

I need to find a place locally that will do the eye exam for glasses and write a prescription for me, then I’ll give Zenni a try.

whereas my progressives cost more at about 120USD

I had hard-coated Hoya progressive lenses made 2 weeks ago at First optic in Pattaya, at the price of 4400 baht, that is about the same price as no brand name Chinese lenses.

That of course included the eye test, measuring and fitting,

Been a customer of First Optic for at least 10 years, and if something is wrong I have a place to go back to.

I ordered my glasses on 19-Aug and they arrived 1-Sep. The glasses are a perfect fit with clear vision for me across all ranges so I am happy compared to the high street products here. I chose progressives with sun shading and a plastic frame I was familiar with as I already bought reading glasses from Zenni before with the same frame. The frame costs about 10USD and the reading glasses as much again, whereas my progressives cost more at about 120USD but could be had for 20-30 USD cheaper depending on choices.

After placing order, Zenni seems to make the glasses within 2 days and mails it, emails about 4 days later with the tracking code, its not couriered so a bit slow. Postal cost was 9USD. I thought in the past Zenni mailed from Hong Kong, but the package seemed to come from Sweden, despite saying made in China on package, and via Singapore. There was four days transit in Singapore. Once in Bangkok it arrives next day on your door. So about 2-3 days manufacture and 8-9 days mailing time.

I will order again unless I hear of any better services.

Thank you for a very detailed follow-up, much appreciated. By the way during your going thru the initial ordering process with Zenni, did you notice anywhere that gives an option to custom the lens for indoor use (like watching tv, or staring at your computer, different viewing distances) as opposed to for outdoor use?
