How Much Would You Pay For A Fake Watch?

Featured Replies

Of course I would need to find the supposed fakes first and in a big city like Bangkok, who knows where I would look.

Anyway just suppose I could find somebody to sell me some fake watches and they looked just like these, called Officine Panerai,

how much would I pay for good copies?, hypothetically speaking of course.

2,000 baht topside.

I have one.

It's a big 'un too, doesn't show in the photo.

Nothing, why have a fake watch, wouldn't a real one be better?

What is a fake watch? If it's got a dial, case, hands and tells the time, it's a watch whoever makes it. Copies are different. Take Rolex for example. You can get good copies, medium copies or just run-of -the mill, 250 baht watches with the 'Rolex' insigna on them. These will keep perfect time for about two years until it's time to throw them away and buy a new one. I have never heard of the brand you have shown, but check to see if it has a push-on back, or screw on. In my previous life, I used to buy hundreds, and rarely had a complaint, back in old Blighty.

How does that work out for you in Bangkok?

Ahhh ..... in Bangkok, I use the mobile.

P.S. Rob, you get what you pay for. The best copy I have bought was a Breitling, very accurate movement (only adjusted the time once when the battery expired after 5 years) and indistinguishable from the original..... that was about 1.2k Baht.

I have this theory that most of the non-rolex watches are manufactured in Taiwan anyway and only the fact that you buy them through an 'original outlet' makes them original.

Bought an ok looking fake gucci for 120baht at KSK market CM. Wasnt on the look out for a fake, just needed a new watch as my last one (20bht) shattered on the floor. I often forget to put a watch on. Not wrist checking every 10mins is part of the luxury of living in Thailand.

Why need a watch when you have the time.

A fake watch should be no more then 500 baht . Real ones but from a cheap name are similar priced and they less the same time . A couple of months and they are finished .

The ones welders use! Fashionable styling for a serious profession....

I am of the belief that unless you LOOK like you can really afford the real watch, wearing a fake watch will only call attention to it's fakeness, and really look like an embarassment for the wearer. It all centers around the REST of the outfit. In a place like Pattaya, it's so unlikely that anyone would be wearing a real one. In other words, wearing a "No money, no honey" or "Good boy goes to Heaven, Bad boy goes to Pattaya" t shirt PROBABLY means your Rolex is fake.

I sometimes see Thai women get on a baht bus, with a Chanel t-shirt, or Louis Vitton bag, and you know they have to be fake... first, I don't think Chanel even makes real t-shirts... and second, if you can afford the real Vitton bag, I don't think you'll be on the 10 baht bus, with me.

But what really annoys me are the kind of people that would wear one of those Louis Vitton items, with the letters slightly changed, to avoid copyright infringement laws... why bother?

Years ago, I was in South Korea, and remember seeing some film for sale... they had two choices: Kodak film, and another brand, with similar design and colors to Kodak, but it was called "Kadok" film. I bought the Kadok... and it was good stuff.

and second, if you can afford the real Vitton bag, I don't think you'll be on the 10 baht bus, with me.

I can't believe you'd pay 10 baht for a baht bus ! :o

I reckon he has tried to pay the listed price of 5B before! That would have been a funny scene to witness... :D

must have been a long haul trip.... :D

I have a couple of real Louis Vuittons and some other 'real' stuff, as well as a bunch of fakes. I dont mind mixing, I dont care what fashion or class dictates. I believe I have class, so feel i dont need to bow to any kind of dictatorship regarding it. If i like it then i like it, and i dont believe you need to always pay an outrageous sum for an article of clothing to be acceptable. People who look down at fakes are silly in my mind. If you get a sense of superiority from paying 10 times more than a good fake then there is something wrong with your thinking. Gucci etc arent paying me to advertise their wares, so why should i pay through the nose to walk around looking like a walking advertisement. Of course, some things like a good time-piece are different. In some cases you do get what you pay for. But for faddy items and handbags, a fake is just as good as the real thing. Anyway..like most things, i believe being subtle is the key.

As for a 10baht bus ride, i wouldnt be adverse to taking one, with or without a real or fake designer item on my person. Remember its the man who makes the clothes not the clothes that make the man.

I have a fake Patek Phillippe, 8 years old, cost 300 Baht.

Many people admire it.

If I wear my real Skagen, cost €150 (about 7,000 Baht), very few people notice it.

well now that this thread has established itself without getting closed I can drop the pretence.

Basically I want a couple of these watches as gifts for some guys who sort out work contracts for me,

I'm not adverse to oiling the wheels of industry if it means a better payday for me, in keeping with my principles let's call it barter.

So I guess the concesus is that you wouldn't pay more than 1500 baht for a fake watch, the only thing left to answer is where in Bangkok am i going to find them? I don't mean 500 baht crap that last long enough for the vendor to disappear, I mean that 1500 baht crap that will pass anything but the closest inspection. So where should I look?

Trust me, the selection in Bangkok's Patong Market is where you need to go... they have almost everything... Pattaya just has a few leftovers. I have never had a problem with a good quality fake watch, say 1,000 baht up to 2,500 baht for some. Remember, it will only look real if the rest of your outfit/energy/look make it appear to be real. Otherwise it's a real embarassment.

I buy them from a guy at the corner of Patpong, on the Surawongese side, on the corner AWAY from the (I think KFC or Mcdonalds there), as if you were heading of the direction of Rama 4 road... he's on a side table, i think the first side row in. He has several tables... look for the guy, about 30 years old, with some big scars on his face, maybe he was in an accident.. He's a big agressive, but will come down to the fair price, and sells good stuff, and he will tell you which ones are "number one", and which ones are not.
