I always think of 2006, and getting the airport opened. There had been wrangling and delays and BS I could not believe.... I always felt Thaksin at least got that done.

Yes, it was built without delay and it had a MASSIVE budget.

Note that on opening day many facilities / utilities were'nt finished / were faulty etc.

Also note, it was built to a 30 year old plan with no upgrade to incorpororate recent technology etc., developments.

Wonder if they will give him a room with a view?

Perhaps he will get a view of the CentralWorld, a hundred metres away.

You know the one his supporters burnt down in 2010.

Maybe a corner room with 270° view?

They burned down a lot of things.

PHEU THAI de facto boss/ former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra was rushed to the Police Hospital from Bangkok Remand Prison in the middle of the night after it was found that he was suffering from insomnia, chest tightness, high blood pressure and low oxygen level at his finger tip, Matichon newspaper and Sanook.com said today (Aug. 23).

Upon reaching the hospital after leaving the prison at 12.30 a.m.Thaksin was moved to the Royal Suite on the 14th floor of Maha Bhumibol Rachanusorn 88th Birthday Anniversary building where there are only two such suites on separate wings.

Mr. Sithi Suwong, the Corrections Department’s deputy director-general and spokesman, said careful consideration was made in moving Thaksin to the Police Hospital after going through his medical treatment records at hospitals in Singapore and the US.

Only if he died and it was proven to be natural causes. Any other reasons given by a deceitful lying government spokesperson will not be acceptable to many many Thai people.

But would bring joy to to the many be conned in his business days.

Further, he had no ethics or morals, he got his billionaire payout and invested in blood diamond mining, a very nasty hideous activity.

How do these Thai have so much money? Lottery winnings? Rice field sale? Or the other more obvious way... corruption.

Alternatively you could do an internet search and find out for yourself.

Hope the inmates at Bang Kwang get equal treatment when they get a tummy bug.

He wasn't in Bang Kwang.

His strategy all along... he'll never serve time in prison, he'll be accommodated as a sick patient.

Funny how he  fell ill hours after returning to Thailand.

One of my biggest fears, he dies in Thailand under suspicious circumstances (or not), the country descends into chaos.

He was never going to stay in jail, he's going to play the sick card... funny how he's managed to globe trot around the world yet fall sick hours after being banged up.

Obviously not used to spicy Thai food - after all those goats testicles in the desert.

If Thaksin is really really ill, (as in shuffling off this mortal coil), then PT's potency in the coalition, (of which they are a minority), will be diluted both within government, and by the further drop off from their supporters, (and voters).

It's somtam all round; the silent coup has worked to retain the military in power for the next 5 years.

I reckon he's suffering from L.ID. It's well known to cause insomnia, palpitations and feelings of inadequacy.

Funny how he  fell ill hours after returning to Thailand.

And flown to hospital in a helicopter - issue: insomnia.

And now pampered in a royal suite.

Step by step - soon 'home detention' for a few years then pardon. And his household maids can prepare his hot milk to help him sleep. And sit by his bed so he's not lonely.

Possibly no playing with his grandchidren,  not well enough, insomnia is a serious condition.

Seems that its been well planned.

Ethics, not relevant.

And many rejoice that a serious threat to Thailand's stability, development and transition to a real democracy has been removed.

IIRC Thaksin was elected democratically.

I didn't say that he was, did I?

I was offering a comparison of his privileged life against normal criminals, a point that most posters seemed to understand.

The last thing any government would want is for Thaksin to die in jail, it would make him a martyr to his supporters.

While I am not a fan,  the northern Thais I know much prefer him over Prayut, who they dismiss as a criminal.

Wow, also have Trip advisor ratings.

My Thai son was injured playing uni rugby (face smashed by opposing rugby player).

Coach insisted he be taken to Police Gen hospital. Son had good BUPA health insuance at that time, he asked to be taken to a better hospital, but nobody would listen.

Hospital nurses noticed a document from BUPA on his bedside table (whichIhad mailed to him at the hosp., and asked him what it was.

Result: nurses, matron, doctors, admin. staff and demanded a %.

And they wouldn't accept that he wasn't gtting a  reimbursement because at the time BUPA didn't have any cooperative agreement with the police hospital.

I visited my son in the non-air conditioned noisy hospita. Doctor was called and he immediately demanded I give him and all others a reward. No reward paid.

Son's uni buddies knew the whole story. Son's treatment was all completed but they wouldn't discharge him.

His uni buddies developed a plan to secretely / quietly rush my son out of the hospital very early morning (guards mostly asleep) and home.

Breakfast time son's phone and my phone started ringing every few minutes. We didn't answer.

He wasn't being treated for a stomach bug.  Why should an upset stomach require helicoptoring to the Police Hospital?
