What a stupid comment, for all you know they were fighting to save their own lives.

Or just swimming away without looking, for all you know, right? What is stupid now?

Rivers and ponds all over Thailand.

Like the one the child died in.

Are you for real ??  did you think about that for even a second ???

Hey parents we're going to take these kids who can't swim to the local river of unknown depth and currents / to the local pond of unknown depth....

What would you then say when more kids drown because school took swimming lessons in a river / pond ????

Plenty of public pools

Where available they should of course be utilised to assist in teaching water safety.

But only where there is an adequate number of able adults who can also swim.

The reality is that 'teaching water safety' doesn't need water.

Children can be taught the risks of water and also basic life-saving techniques such as throwing a rope or something that floats etc.

Of course, teaching children to swim as well is far better, but that may not always be practical.

There is much that can be taught in schools regarding safety.

- Water safety

- Electrical safety

- Road safety

These are simply area's where Thai authorities let children down.

Are you really suggesting that the children who survived swam away knowing their friend was dying ?

Seriously?   You think that schools should take non-swimmer pupils out of school to rivers and ponds to teach them to swim?  Good grief...

It could be done as an extra-curricular activity. Same way I and many others learned to swim.

Seems a few others thought it was a stupid comment, so you're out voted - stupid.

Yeah, usually the same bunch every time.

As are you are fully aware of the circumstances of the unfortunate drowning, it stands to reason you are also fully aware of who commented - well done, you are lucky to have such powers.

What was the need for a photo? totally awful journalism!

Most people understand drowning and dont require the article illustrated like a kids comic.

Youtube has free videos on how to float in water. Every parent should know this. Many parents are idiots though.

It is comments such as the above which single you out as an utter buffoon.

'Many parents are idiots'....     as a sweeping generalisation to explain the lack of water safety education.

"Many parents are innocently ignorant of the risks"....  just as I'm quite certain many of use are "innocently ignorant of the some of the risks our children face" and in generations to come our children will be surprised that we allowed them to do x-y-z....

Agreed... either post a photo of the actual pond as part of the article to highlight the specific circumstances...

But.. to post a stock photo of an apparently drowning child is in horrific taste.

Just highlights a complete lack of intelligence that is also added to by a few posters gauging from their replies.
