Breaking News on "The Nation" FB page here on my computer in Siem Reap:

(from 8 years down to 1 year). Well done, Sir.

May be an image of 2 people and text that says "NATION THAILAND BREAKING SIHN King commutes Thaksin's jail sentence 01.09.2023 03.40 PM"

if you view it from a different perspective, the king reduced the sentence to 1 year.

does that imply that the king also believes thaksin is a guilty criminal?

"He'll be ........."etc etc etc".

All of these forecasts are probably from the people who said "There's no way that Thaksin will ever come back to Thailand unless he has a Royal Pardon first".

But the truth he of the matter is that he is here in Thailand (Unless it's a Doppelganger) - sorry to spoil your theories,

but that's all they are.

By the way, I'm neither a Thaksin or Government supporter, merely making a comment on the way this post is progressing.

sounds like the theories were correct, news article in the BP says he got a one year Royal Pardon, should be out any day now

And just how is he going to get around the 1 yr reduced sentence, in hospital? He won't handle a year in the can! He's to rich to do real time! ????

According to news reports from reporters at the justice ministry, inmate Thaksin Shinawatra could request parole after serving one-third of his sentence. Since his sentence was reduced from 8 years to 1 year, he could apply for parole in 4 months from now.

So far, Thaksin has spent less than a day in a medical ward inside the Bangkok Remand Prison when he returned on August 22 before being transferred for treatment at the Police General Hospital on the night of his arrival. His time at the hospital is being counted as time served in jail.

According to regulations, Thaksin could serve his time at a hospital for up to 120 days if granted permission by Corrections Department director-general Aryut Sinthoppan.

Thaksin has been at the hospital for 10 days now, and if he desires to extend his stay beyond 120 days, he can seek permission from the justice minister. The anticipated new justice minister is Tawee Sodsong, who is also the new leader of the Prachachart Party, one of the parties in the Pheu Thai-led government.

As we cannot comment, all that can be said is, it was a reduction - not a pardon

I wonder what the final act will be, they need something to distract everyone from all of this and move forward quickly.

But still 1 year in jail. Naah not goint to happen.

Stand by for another announcement to allow him home detention for the 1 year.

Or is there another trick to be revealed?
