Root canal cost in Bangkok

I've just visited 2 dental clinics and one consulted me to do root canal for a total of 16k (3 visits). Another clinic told me that I would have to do it 2 times and each time cost 12k so it would be 24k. This sounds so strange because I've never heard that I have to pay for the whole price per visit. Can anyone explain for me about this pricing or tell about your experience of doing it?

I'm having one done myself, actually 2nd visit tomorrow, and quoted 8k total, though suspect a bit more.  Then a veneer for 4k.  Single root incisor.   

 

Had molar done before 2, maybe 3 root, as remember taking longer than I thought, maybe 3 rooted, and too long ago, forget the price.  But guessing 10k range, but was long time ago, 14 ish yrs..

Quotes are just estimates, actual will depend on number of sessions needed.

Not sure what you mean.  Often you pay full price on first visit.  As for price there is basic root canal and then additional cost for cover (which may also need additional cost for post to hold it).  Could be 4 visits or more involved for everything.  Your prices seem high for just RCT so suspect were for complete treatment including inexpensive cover (some crowns can cost more than 20k each so obviously did not include that).

2nd visit for root canal done (Fri/10 days after 1st), was charged seperate for each visit 4k & 4k.  Need to return Monday, for more work, a permanent filling, and mold for the forthcoming composite.  After taking the other half of the crapped out veneer that's still there off.

 

So a 4th visit, maybe 10-14 days after Monday before done.

 

So a bit pricy for saving a small tooth, being the side incisor.  1k and I could have just yanked it, but where would my modeling career go from there ... ????

 

Vanity is expensive ????

 

So another 1k + 4k, I think she said, or 12k for a crown, which I don't really need, as an incisor.

Three years ago I was given a quote for a molar root canal work, I think it was 4 roots to do so FOUR separate visits for a total quote at one of these chain store type dental clinics. The cost would be about 10k in total and that was what I paid, about a 2500THB per visit. It included some antibiotics and meds at time as my face was swollen up from the infection.

I think I paid at least 10k for a root canal and I think more than that for a crown in a private clinic (not in a tourist area).

Just in general: Private hospital charge a lot more than private clinics, with the same doctors working a few days here and there.

If you can live with not so perfect English then avoid dentists in tourist areas. There are enough dentists a little bit away from the tourists.

Indeed - but in my experience there may be less attention to sterile procedures or environment.

yes, if using the lower end dental clinic/docs, do schedule your appointment to be the first.

 

Unless you actually think they have enough autoclaves, bits & drills to sterilize both the drill bits & drills between every patient.

Is it really so bad?

Obviously that is not impossible, but I would think Thailand is not so far behind the rest of the world in hygiene.

That is my experience. My local high street dental clinic has both general and specialist dentists. Equipment seems very up-to-date and they recently installed a most impressive looking X-Ray machine. There are 9 cubicles with individual air filtration/extraction systems.

If your tooth is already badly rotten away with filling, then i would not bother with a root canal.  The worst part are root canal teeth that are stinking and rotten.  I think very unhealthy and not worth it.

I depends where the tooth is, and amount of teeth you still have in the area.  I had one molar yanked, as not much tooth left holding the filling, that needed a touch up.  Didn't see the point of a root canal & crown, 30+k baht, for 1 I don't need or can see.

 

Especially at 67 yrs old.  Still have 26 other ones, doing a fine job.

I paid 11000 THB some years ago, in Jomtien, Incl the crown. 

 

It's always important to take care of your oral hygiene, especially as you get older. I use interdental brushes to clean between the teeth, every day. And mouth wash.

Extraction of a tooth does not lead only to loss of that tooth. It affects the alignment of all the other teeth and n the long run may cause worse dental problems.

 

Should always try to save a tooth if possible.

 

Costs of dental work, like everything else, have gone up a lot in past decade in Thailand so use caution with regard to prices reported from more than a few years ago.

 

Cost of RCT will vary depending in number of sessions required. May be charged per session or they may estimate at first session and charge a flat rate. In general 10 -15K these days is usual but could be less if only 1-2 sessions needed and more if 4-5 sessions needed.

 

Post and crown, if needed, will be additional and crown costs vary with the quality of the material used.

Hi everyone, I just went to another clinic and they charge around 13k for the root canal and 2k extra for a temporary filling after putting the medicine inside the root. After that process, they would put the post and crown. I will visit 2 times and the payment will be divided. However, 2 other dental clinics insisted that I must do root canal 2 times and pay double the price (13-14k per root canal treatment so it means I have to pay 26-28k). That was why I created a topic to ask everyone about the experience.
