Do they normally have a staff member on the train? I mean apart from the driver.

Never seen it myself.

Strange

With modern technology one would think the driver and some controller in some BTS office should know about this problem.

Was there an alarm?

Did anybody notice?

Why was the train not stopped? Intentionally?

How can you stop a train for a minor malfunction when trains are following on the same track at 2 - 10 minute intervals? Posting a staff member at the faulty door was the correct procedure. Holding up the whole transportation network over one faulty door would be absurd.

They are testing for when the hordes of Indians arrive.
They like to ride on trains with open doors. Some even sitting on the roof.

I understand what you are saying. But imagine someone would have stumbled out of that door, maybe drunk or something like that. And then imagine how many people would have asked why nobody stopped that train - even if it would be inconvenient for many others.

Having the available on-board manpower to keep people away from the open doors is an advantage they had here.... it's just the driver in many countries....
