SA KAEO - In a daring escape attempt, a 34-year-old man was apprehended by police after attempting to steal gold jewelry worth 10 baht and fleeing a prominent shopping mall in Sa Kaeo province, Thailand.

 

The incident unfolded on September 24, 2023, at 4:26 PM when a man, later identified as Akrawet Sanpimai, entered a well-known jewelry store inside the Tesco Lotus shopping mall in Wang Nam Yen district.

 

He feigned interest in purchasing gold jewelry, trying on a 5-baht gold bracelet and a 5-baht gold necklace, totaling 10 baht. Nevertheless, he adamantly declined to take off the jewelry or settle the bill, prompting the store personnel to notify law enforcement, reported 77kaoded.

Shortly thereafter, law enforcement officers promptly appeared on the premises, and a physical altercation ensued, resulting in the apprehension of the perpetrator. The pilfered merchandise, consisting of two gold jewelry items, was successfully reclaimed.

 

Akrawet was attired in a long-sleeved green shirt adorned with camouflage designs, black trousers, and a dark face mask throughout the attempted heist. He attempted to escape on a blue-black Suzuki motorcycle with the license plate number KNG 325 Sa Kaeo.

Store manager Sivaporn Khetnimit was the victim of the failed robbery. The suspect now faces charges related to attempted theft and will be prosecuted accordingly.
