A government border force seized 225 kg of crystal meth (ice) in Mae Sai, Chiang Rai,  early on Sunday morning, following a clash with suspected drug couriers. When the soldiers signaled for a search, the group opened fire, leading to a 5-minute gunfight and a subsequent standoff, prompting the soldiers to call for reinforcements.


The Ministry of Agriculture is working on amending laws on fishing to address financial challenges faced by fishermen due to strict regulations. While the laws aim to combat Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated fishing, some find them overly stringent. A committee has been established and will meet this week, to review the situation.  

 

The Lawyers Council of Thailand plans to begin offering free legal assistance to victims of a recent fireworks warehouse explosion in Narathiwat next week. Approximately 50 volunteer lawyers are currently collecting necessary documents from the victims to initiate legal actions against the warehouse owners and seven companies involved in smuggling and unlawfully storing fireworks.

 

The Army has launched an investigation into the disappearance of over 200,000 liters of fuel from a military unit located in Saraburi province. The matter came to light last year when authorities initiated a review of fuel distribution across Army units throughout the country.


Locally: 
The body of a 43-year-old fisherman from Cha-am, missing at sea for four days, was found floating some 4 kilometers off Cha-am coast yesterday. His fishing boat had been caught in a storm and capsized last Thursday. Rescue personnel sent the body to Hospital for examination. Police were working with local authorities to investigate the case.

At least 16 people were killed in a coal mine fire yesterday in southwest China's Guizhou province, "It’s understood a conveyor belt caught fire, causing 16 miners to be trapped.
