Thank you. I do wish some of the posters answer the questions asked instead of jumping on their hobby horse.

Perhaps they objected to the chauvinistic tone of the OP. The 40k is to prove you can support yourself, not your wife.

But that 40k is not required if foreigner is a woman and Thai spouse is male.  Yes, the male must support the female.

Can you quote where it says in the immigration regulations that the 40k is specifically for supporting your wife?

Just because they assume a foreign woman will be supported by her Thai husband, it doesn't follow that they expect a foreign man to support his Thai wife. All it proves is that they expect Thai men to support their foreign wives and foreign men to support themselves. To assume any more than that is pure conjecture. Up until recently they didn't even care if you kept using the same 400k in the bank to support visa extensions based on marriage, which puts rather a large hole in your argument doesn't it?

See https://aseannow.com/applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=804079 (Police Order No. 327/2557 Criteria and Conditions for Consideration of an Alien’s Application  for a Temporary Stay in the Kingdom of Thailand). Specifically you need to see the conditions for a stay under Reason 2.18."In the case of being a family member of a Thai national...". The relevant condition is:

Quote

 (6) In the case of marriage to a Thai woman, the alien husband must earn an average annual income of no less than Baht 40,000 per month or must have no less than Baht 400,000 in a bank account in Thailand for the past two months to cover expenses for one year.

Many have reasonably complained about this.
