Popular Post Social Media Posted October 20, 2023 Popular Post Posted October 20, 2023 Summary US President Joe Biden has delivered a televised speech on the US response to Hamas's attack against Israel He said he will ask US Congress for billions of dollars in funding for Israel and Ukraine, saying abandoning the US allies was "just not worth it" But he urged Israeli leaders to learn from US mistakes after the 9/11 attacks and to avoid being "blinded by rage" Biden's speech comes after his whirlwind trip to Israel and after an agreement was reached with Egypt to allow some aid to enter Gaza Gaza remains under siege, with Israel blocking supplies of water, electricity, food and fuel across its border The most serious escalation in the conflict in decades erupted on 7 October, when Hamas attacked, killing more than 1,400 people More than 3,700 people have been killed in Gaza since then, the health ministry in the Hamas-run territory says What did Biden say ? Here's what President Biden said in his rare Oval Office address to the nation. His speech aimed to draw a link between the conflicts in Ukraine and Israel and he urged Congress to take action and pass an aid package supporting both nations. Biden didn't actually say how much he was seeking in extra funding, but is expected to be asking for $100bn. Notable quotes from his speech include: "Hamas and Putin represent different threats, but they share this in common: they both want to completely annihilate a neighboring democracy." "If we don't stop Putin's appetite for power and control in Ukraine he won't limit himself to Ukraine." Biden said that Hamas had unleashed "pure unadulterated evil on the world" and stressed there was "no higher priority for me than the safety of Americans held hostage". He also addressed the common sentiment that both conflicts felt far away to many Americans, saying that "by making sure Israel and Ukraine succeed it is vital for America's national security". His final task was to explain why giving potentially billions in aid to Israel and Ukraine was important for Americans to support. Terrorists and dictators need to "pay a price", the president said. How come they can just keep paying out to other countries when there are so many problems at home? It's shennanigans like this from the W H that get people like Trump elected. IMO the greatest farce is claiming that israel needs billions more to defeat a few Hamas fighters armed with rifles and RPGs. Is the israeli army so weak it needs billions of US $ to win? 1 1 4 1 1 3 2

Popular Post Purdey Posted October 20, 2023 Popular Post Posted October 20, 2023 It is always a good idea to support allies. While Israel did not officially support its allies militarily in Vietnam or Korea or Iraq (Desert Storm), they sent thoughts and prayers. They have always amply proven that they are true allies and deserve help. 9

Unilateral invasion of a sovereign nation comes to mind, whether that be North Korea or Russia. Rifles and RPGs? Good thing there were not missiles and drones launched during the initial Hamas attack! 3 2

While I would prefer a different political contest for November 2024, there is not a viable alternative currently. The Republican Party seems determined to destroy itself. Oh, that tax bit? Sad try ... the issue is not government taxation of the working middle class ... the issue is the working middle class paying a higher percentage of their take home pay than are far too many of the wealthy and not seeing the direct benefits of that taxation. So, the unfair taxation system favoring the wealthy, the shrinking income/wealth piece of the economic pie (a result of the policies/actions or inaction by both major parties for decades) resulting in an unsustainably income/wealth gap. And that is, in large measure, why Americans are chewing on each other while Congress if afraid to act to address issues. 2 1 2 2

Shared information from the Russians targeting 3 states got "donnie" elected ; and what did he not cozy up to dictators? The backlash from an articulate intelligent black President enraged the white folks. Rest of your post pretty accurate. 1 1

Well the Yanks spent $1T in Afghanistan and the goat herders there still sent them packing did they not? With the NeoCons fully in charge of the US State Dept expect a few more war fronts started before Biden leaves the stage. Blinken, formerly of the NeoCon CSIS, will not be satisfied until Ukraine is fully destroyed to avenge Kyiv's treatment of his great grandaddy in 1904. Nuland, 2nd in command and family member of the nasty NeoCon Kagan clan, has plenty of Republican friends from her years with the G.W. Bush admin to keep that bunch on side. 2 1 1 3

I was eluding to your tax dollars being handed out overseas.... instead of being spent on infrastructure at home where it's obviously needed... They could also spend those billions on medical aid for those in need of hospital treatments, making it more affordable for most. or even a tax cut 1 1
