Thailand-In an unusual move, Chinese police will join Thai police in tourist hotspots to patrol in the near future to boost tourist confidence, says Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin.

The announcement was made today, Sunday November 13th, 2023, by Thapanee Kiatphaibool, director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand. It followed a meeting with the Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport earlier today.

According to Thapanee, a meeting with the Chinese embassy would take place on Tuesday, November 15th, and top Thai police, tourist police, and Central Intelligence Bureau officers would attend to hammer out the specifics of the plan.

The exact locations where Chinese police would patrol were not yet released but would be areas Chinese tourists gather in large numbers, said Thapanee. TPN media notes that places like Pattaya and Phuket would almost certainly be on the list.

Same with farang police, Now Chinese police.  Of course it won't help Chinese tourism. And hopefully they won't be to pregidist against westerners. But, I would not bet on it. Another nail in the coffin for western expats and tourists.

I wish there was a place to send these Thai politicians to grow a spine or grow a pair. No wonder self respect is one trait Thais aren’t aware of.

They've been here, there and everywhere for a very long time.

The only thing new is that they're operating in the open now.

I don't think this will be popular with the Chinese criminals that operate in Thailand and have been the subject of several recent news stories.

Thai police to go on patrol, how novel.

Everything is fine as it is, Thai police do a great job

Dont expect an average person there to realize how appalling this really is!

We have had Western police for many many years, as the Tourist Police Volunteers and the Foreign Police Assistants. They have pretty limited authority  and have to have regular police with them and no power of arrest. Probably find them sitting around playing with their phones.

I am glad that the Thai PM finally acknowledged that his police force is not up to the task, and outside help is needed. Now if he could only look into other Thai institutions .

How about foreign PM's coming in every once in a while?

The police thing  sounds to me as preferential treatment for certain nationalities. that should not go over well with others.

How about having an UN police force ? or even yet simply issue a loaded  AK47 to every tourist coming in at the airport immigration booth?

Nothing spells  security like a loaded AK47 in your arms.

It would be returned as the tourist depart, cleaned , reloaded and issued to the next tourist

I also have some other good ideas , PNDs (personal nuclear devices ) as a Mutually Assured   Destruction Deterrent )MADD)? If the PM would pm me (pun intended) I will be willing to discuss my brilliant ideas ove a beer at a venue of his choosing.

Mixed messages as usual.

The exact locations where Chinese police would patrol were not yet released but would be areas Chinese tourists gather in large numbers.

However, a later statement by a spokesman to the Prime Minister denied any patrolling would take place and only that the two forces would share information.

How stupid can they get?

Politicians don’t know about how legal sovereignty works… or is this a case if sensationalise journalism?

Surrendering their country sovereignty n invite other law agencies to patrol Thailand 🤣🤣🤣. Based on what law in Thailand constitution is this allowed? What laws are the Chinese police enforcing 🤣🤣 China laws or Thai laws? Does Thailand allow foreign laws to be enforced in Thailand?
When the crime happen - can the Chinese police make arrest ? If the criminal is foreign - it will make very interesting diplomatic case.

Looks like the Thai government is really desperate for Chinese tourist n they deem security is the cause rather than other factors .. how myopic

Nothing new, Russia outsourced an army (the Wagner Group).  Maybe a good idea to outsource a police force if the one you have you have shown you cant control.

This is a huge mistake.

Nobody will benefit from this but the CCP.

What rights will the Chinese police officers have?

If this is accurate, then no big deal.

Police liaison, as with any number of countries and as in any number of countries including just about every 'Western' one.

Chinese police will be targeting Chinese nationals who are wanted and currently hiding out in Thailand...

They are not interested in other tourists.
