Tourists were injured when a giant squid ride at the International Silk Festival malfunctioned, causing a piece to break off and hit the ground.

The accident, which occurred during the last ride of the day yesterday, December 1, resulted in three people sustaining injuries. Following the incident, authorities swiftly stepped in, providing immediate medical assistance to the injured and transporting them to the hospital.

This morning, December 2, Prachuap Rakphat, the District Chief Officer of Khon Kaen, along with Anu Jeungsakul, the city’s Town Planning Officer and other concerned authorities, inspected the site of the incident.

Upon examination, they discovered that the part of the ride that connected to the squid’s tentacle had broken off, causing the ride to collapse and injure the tourists. All three injured tourists were not critically harmed.

Flowers, Birds nest drink basket & wai's all around and it'll all be forgiven ....  that's the thai way.

Concerned about bad publicity...

I stay away from attractions of this sort, health and safety isn't Thailand's strong point, and at 68 I'm risk averse.

I was on this ride with my daughter 2 weeks ago at the Surin Elephant Festival against my better judgement but relented as my daughter really wanted to go on it. After we finished our ride the thing was stopped for about 10 minutes while the carnies did some maintenence!

No inspections, no routine maintenance, no records (I bet) plus no one gives a damn.......surprised they didn't blame faulty brakes.

My Family and I were at a fair with some Thai friends...   my friends Son wanted to go on the Mini-Ferris wheel.

I went over and took a look at the ride, took some photos of rusty bolts and rusty bolt holes with missing bolts and showed them to my friend...  who agreed - no go !... I showed them to my friends son who very quickly lost interest in going on the ride.

I'll not allow my son to go on any of these fairground rides that have quickly moving or mechanical parts.

There is no preventative maintenance and absolutely no accountability whatsoever for the failure to meet basic safety standards.
