Prime Minister Takes Swift Action Against "Fake News," Warns of Tourism Impact

On December 6, 2023, at 1:38 PM in Nakhon Ratchasima Province, Prime Minister Seratha Thaweesin, who is also the Minister of Finance, addressed the media regarding a controversial incident involving Chinese tourists wearing Thai police uniforms.

 

The tourists, one of whom had a short haircut, were seen donning black caps with the emblem of the Royal Thai Police, causing public outrage, reported Siam Rath.

 

Prime Minister Thaweesin strongly expressed his disapproval of the situation, underlining the imperative for immediate intervention.

 

In response to queries about whether he had tasked the National Police Chief with managing the issue, he firmly asserted, "Certainly, indeed."

 

Moreover, he disclosed that comprehensive instructions had been dispensed to the Minister of Tourism and Sports and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) to navigate the potential impacts on the tourism sector.

 

Over lunch, the Prime Minister continued discussions about the incident, expressing disbelief at the circulating news. He emphasized the need for swift and effective management of the situation, considering the potential negative impact of "fake news" on the nation's prosperity.

That makes it a hundred times worse, that cropped locks mastermind may be responsible for toppling Thai tourism.

It shows again that Thailand has no clue how to be attractive to tourists... Old fashioned idea's and outdated laws and no clue what tourists want

It seems that the main concern of the Thai government and PM is tourism and the number of them there of, because all you here mostly is how to get more tourists in and not much about the welfare of the Thai people...

The PM has lost the plot.

It is only fake news if it is not true. However, photographs would indicate that this story is true.

Would the new PM care to also declare, that the widespread concern amongst foreign-residents about changes to the long-standing arrangements for taxing us, is also a "fake-news" story ?  

 

I doubt it, as it's currently still just an ill-considered proposal & internal-instruction within the Revenue Department, so only "semi-fake news".  

 

But it IS nevertheless causing very-great concern, and bad-publicity for the country !

 

Perhaps he might wish to clarify, that in-fact Thailand still welcomes tourists & longer-staying foreign-residents, and appreciates the contribution we all make when creating jobs & supporting our families & paying VAT/excise-duty/airport-departure-tax/land-taxes/immigration-fees, and states clearly that the proposal was all just a bad-dream (or misinterpretation or mistake by a junior official), and that we can all stop worrying about it ?

What fake news?

Was the guy wearing a Thai police uniform or not?

Or the suggestion that he might be employed?

Thai tourism still thinks the Vietnam war is going on.  At least, that is the premise I think for their mindset.   

 

Thailand has nice temples and nice hotels BUT that is all and you need more to draw people.

 

An example is aska a thai in Bangkok if they have been to dreamworld.  Most don't even know where it is  

 

There needs to be family centered or kids centered activities. 

 

Also there needs to be a development of the computer era.  There are many Thai students who are taking coding and computer university courses.  They need to start trying to compete at the international level for jobs with China.

Prime Minister Thaweesin ain't messing around – he's all about quick action. Wonder how this is gonna play out for the tourism scene, though. Fake news is a wild card these days, man.
