Popular Post snoop1130
Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin indicated today that his government will not be bound by the 20-year national strategy initiated by the Prayut administration, claiming that it is difficult for a nation to predict accurately what will happen in the next few years, not to mention the next 20, because the world is changing constantly and rapidly. Chairing a meeting of the National Strategy Committee, the prime minister instructed the committee to set a framework for the national strategy, which is flexible and relevant to global changes, so that people will know in which direction Thailand is heading and all stakeholders are headed in that direction. He said that the strategy must not be an obstacle to decision making on future development or the future of the country. Popular Post ukrules
He's right, any government making promises beyond their term can have it reversed in a heartbeat after defeat in an election. If the people all backed and wanted Prayuth and his governments plans for the future then they would have voted him back in again as PM. They didn't, but then again they didn't vote for this one either 4 2 1

The problem is that people confuse 2 different things: The dubious appointment process and his competence in office. The process is no doubt regrettable in any country that wants to be thought of as a democracy, but it has little relevance to his personal capacity to do the job. If the military incompetent who preceded him had in fact shown skill in carrying out the PM functions, he might well still be in office. 1
chickenslegs
Isn't the 20-year plan written into the 2017 Constitution? I think it is, and all Government agencies and public organisations must comply. A committee of senators was given powers to monitor progress and use the NACC to suspend (even jail) anyone who fails to comply. I can only find a link in English in the Bangkok Post, which we aren't allowed to quote - but googling "20-year national strategy comes into effect" gives more info. 1

fondue zoo
But Uncle P was very clear about this on many occasions, no detours on their road map, engraved onto two golden tablets, ineffable, unchanging. Plus you can't just tell everyone you can change the framework when you want everyone to believe the framework is unchangeable. It's a tricky balance. There must be an Amendment to get this changed. I believe it is covered in one of the 2 sections that can't be changed by the rewrite too. It always amazed me that the junta PM pushed the 20 yr plan so hard. He couldn't do this in the RTA .... he was dillusional though.

The new government elected in part largely to compromises with an unelected Senate 100% appointed by Prayut's junta that no significant challenges will be made to the military's agenda won't be doing face slaps to the military establishment. Political posturing yes. PS: Google Prayut's current employer.

Why is he instructing this committee whom he will ignore and advise subsequent government to ignore to create a "framework"? What's the point?
