Invading Iraq after 9 11 would be like invading Argentina after Pearl Harbor. https://www.corpwatch.org/article/cheney-halliburton-and-spoils-war

After 9/11 they had to kick someone's ass , and it certainly would not be the place where most of the terrorists came from. It would had crashed the world economy. (SA controlled 20-25% world reserves 2003)  So go after Saddam and kill two birds with one stone.

Sure Saddam had to go. And Osama bin laden had to go. But no country had to be invaded. All required would be US special forces. Snipers for Saddam and army rangers to get  Osama in Afghanistan.

It was that easy, eh?

Saddam was a war criminal. Just because no action taken against others does not spare him. .50 cal sniper teams . Instead the whole Suni government was dismantled thus enabling Shia Iran to get in. After 9/11 Osama bin laden escaped to remote Afghanistan.Army  Rangers unfortunately contracted the task to the Afghanistan militias. Didn't work out too well. And a waste of twenty years $

Let's avoid this rabbit hole on where the billions went. Long gone. It's for sure the military industrial complex is getting billions. Again on that not such a winding road from Afghanistan and Iraq to Ukraine.Meanwhile back in the USA . Those wasted billions are needed for infrastructure: ports, rail, roads, bridges, inner city decay... And a WALL

Sooooo, a billion $ looted, LOL. Why am I not surprised? It's apparently a notoriously corrupt country.

Someone in the US should face charges though, for letting it happen. They must have known it was going to get stolen.

Joe knows...

Why did Saddam had to go? Sure he was a bad actor but the world was and is full of bad actors and we don't take them out, Why Saddam?

If you were to pull Saddam's pants down on his ass there was a USDA stamp and a made in the US stamp. We didn't seem to mind when he was gassing the Kurds  with gas we had given him, We in fact run interference for him when the deed was reported in the world news.

What was he doing now that he was not doing then?  The truth of the meter is that the US needed a fall guy and Saddam was a convenient soft target.

The US only invades soft targets.

With the additional benefit of many in the US getting very wealthy. What do you think happen to all those billions that were unaccounted for?

On the subject of Ukraine before the war Ukraine was considered to be one of the most corrupt countries, then we are to believe that after the invasion they became angels at the beginning of the war?

I wonder how many in Ukraine have become fantastically rich from the US? How many more millions Zelenski has in his secret offshore accounts?

Lets stop the war and let Putin win then have to spend trillions fighting him later. Helping Ukraine fight him now is a bargain for the US,

Civilized nations don't let aggressor war criminals win.

@ozimoron

Indeed, but too funny.

So  $ billions of weapons getting lost, some no doubt ending up with terrorists. "So what" The Southern border invasion in the US costing billions. "So what" Anarchy/mass looting in the liberal saps run cities."So what"

Both of which could be prevented with an Army Corps of Engineers WALL from the Pacific to the Gulf. And sending the military into cities to restore order. Providing the US gets the president it needs: RFK jr. DeSantis, or Trump. Preferred DeSantis. That's what.

Burying a weapon in the head of a Russian invader is not the definition of losing it.

I'd like to agree with you, but IMO a group of obviously not Afghanis wandering around would never have gone un noticed. Also, no way they could take enough supplies to stay long enough to do the job and move out to safety.

They could have parachuted in, but getting out might not have been easy, given the example of Carter's botched action in Iran. There are literally dozens of reasons any such action might go wrong. Yes, they succeeded in getting Osama in Pakistan, but needed locals to assist and they paid the price after being shamefully abandoned by the US.

If someone in the US doesn't get punished for letting it happen the problem will just happen again in the next conflict. Happened in Iraq too, I understand.

OR

The US knew the money would "disappear" and consider it part of the cost of proxy wars.

LOL. You don't expect the swamp to care about what happens in the US, do you? So much less opportunity for a bit of diversion of funds inside the US.

It is very much more complicated/many layers than that ^ See The Tora Bora Report on pdf . Osama bin laden could have should have been eliminated.https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/CPRT-111SPRT53709/html/CPRT-111SPRT53709.htm

High time to stop sending Billions down this rat hole. Putin is going to end up with about half of Ukraine anyway, should have let him have it a long time ago. And spare the "domino effect" here. Russia is not going to invade Europe. Seems all that institutional bribing, I mean campaign contributions from the military industrial complex to the policy makers has paid 📴 on that not such a winding road from Afghanistan and Iraq to Ukraine.  Hopefully a Trump president would get out of that lost cause. https://www.military.com/daily-news/2024/01/11/us-failed-track-more-1-billion-military-gear-given-ukraine-pentagon-watchdog-says.html

I think it is a sight more than $1 billion and I am sick, as a taxpayer, of having to fund this finical disaster in Ukraine. Cut all aid now.

Slava Russia.
