Years back BahtSold seemed to be a good source for buying and selling here in Thailand, but now when searching, tumbleweed rolls across my screen.

I'm particularly after some furniture, 2nd hand is fine but just need to know the best places to look online.

I've done the legwork, shops selling new, and 2nd hand shops, but just wondered if buying privately would give me more options.

At some point I'll be looking at posting some ads too.

problem with the thrift stores is that they ask the same price as new items. you can try craig's list thailand but again... everyone wants the same price as new and most will absolutely not negociate. i know a few places in pattaya... but you give no indication of where you are at. buy new... they will change you the same price as 2nd hand

Thanks, Craig's List I hadn't thought of, but I did have a look on FB Marketplace.

I don't know JJ Market, I'm guessing BKK?

Sorry, yes I'm in Pattaya too.

I tried the largish one on Soi Khopai, but the others I found online were just a lot smaller and with little choice.

The Khopai shop had one sofa that looked half-decent but like you say priced as if new.

Funny because the shop is listed on Google as some kind of charity shop.

First thing I'm really after is a sofa that will convert to a bed.

I think we are talking about the same shop.

I visited there previously but only went in the part that's on the east of the soi.

I went back yesterday and found that it's the same shop on the opposite side of the road.

There was a lot more sofas, all

a bit pricey, but delivery could be arranged, even to a 12th floor condo.

Had a quick look on Craigslist, but only one sofa came up, luckily in my area, but some awful colour and for 18k. It didn't impress me much, I think even BahtSold had 8 or 9 and and you could specify in what area to search.

yes... that is the villainous shop

does it need to be beautiful? or functional?

10 years ago i was renting 2 houses. my permanent house in rayong, and a house in bkk. i didnt want to buy a whole new set of furniture. so what we did is we bought the big size milk crates and a small mattress. the mattress fit perfectly on the crates. we tie wrapped it together and we had our sofa/bed. stick it against the wall, buy some big pillows and your all set. also, you can use the crates to put your stuff in if ever you have to move. they stack up wonderfully

Thanks for all the ideas.

This won't be for a rental property so condition does need to be half-decent. I don't mind any slight flaws and/or grubbiness, as this can be cleaned up with some elbow grease.

Like a lot are saying though, if the price is similar to new then might as well go new.

I didn't realise there was IKEA here, but I'm presuming in BKK?

I'll check out their website.

And yesterday I took a trip south to Collingbourne auction house. They had a nice looking sofa/bed advertised, but it had been sold the day before.

The other auction place mentioned to the north could be worth a look too, especially as it's near LamaLand which comes up on Google as another giant 2nd hand store.

As far as online 2nd hand private sales though, FB Marketplace seems top, then BahtSold, then Craigslist.

Unless anyone knows any more?

It depends if you look at what section in the forum he posted in. Welcome to the Pattaya section.

Only fortunate reason i was able to help him is cos it was in the main section other than that i would not have seen it.

And... does it matter enough to point that out to me?

Think twice and inspect/review both the item as well as the household where it comes from before you bring 2nd hand sofas, mattresses, carpets etc items that can act as a residence for various kinds of bugs and infest your whole home. Cost of getting rid of them might be multiple times of a new piece of furniture. For basic furniture items for farangs it is hard to beat IKEA, and they deliver for reasoble fee.

I've bought various kinds of items as 2nd hand over the years, and it really seems to be hit and miss. Often sellers have out of whack expectations for the price, but every now and then can find a good deal as well. Overall, seems the farang market has largely moved from bahtsold to FB marketplace.

Local people still use Kaidee I guess, but it is only in Thai, but if use with browser, can manage with translated pages.

Second hand market is not popular in Thailand. I've seen many "used" shops in Bangkok, some selling Japanese workers in Thailand's home contents and things not worth paying to move. They don't last long, partly I suspect because items are mostly far to highly priced. There are market areas though with stalls and people sat on the floor, but not furniture. Most stuff seems to get passed down the family until it is junk.

Thais have this idea that everything is gold no matter how old, just this week sent out message as a stir as I was searching Facebook market place for a Mini Cooper S, a 2010 S was listed as Free, seen that a lot by Thai sellers, no comment, yes very good condion under 100,000klms and yes there was a price further down the add, guy shoots back with something in the range of 780,000, reliped that's expensive for a 14 year old S, the owner gets back to me, but "special colour", to end it I say, owned two in the past that there is nothing special about his colour S and at 14 years old good luck trying to sell it...

Why waste the money on the crates ( albeit very nice crates ), you could have just thrown the mattress on the floor.

Car was probably repainted due to an accident and the painter couldn't match the factory color, just made it similar.

When buying used motor vehicles, inspect it thoroughly, many have been in accidents or flooded. Be sure to look under the floor carpeting for rust, look at the body panel seam for misalignment and side panels for bondo (body filler), paint over spray in door frames, front hood bolt removals, etc. .
