White House Expresses Alarm Over AI-Generated Fake Taylor Swift Photos

The White House has voiced alarm over the circulation of explicit images generated by artificial intelligence (AI) depicting pop superstar Taylor Swift. Press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre conveyed concern about the dissemination of these false images, emphasizing the need for social media companies to play a crucial role in enforcing their rules to prevent the spread of misinformation and non-consensual, intimate imagery of real individuals.

While acknowledging that social media companies make independent decisions about content management, Jean-Pierre underscored the importance of robust enforcement to counteract the spread of such misleading content. She further highlighted the disproportionate impact on women and girls, who are often the primary targets of online harassment and abuse.

The incident involving fake sexually explicit images of Taylor Swift has prompted renewed calls from federal lawmakers for social media platforms to rigorously enforce their rules. This development also reignites discussions about the risks associated with artificial intelligence, particularly in the creation of AI-generated content, commonly referred to as deepfakes.

In response to the challenges posed by deepfake pornography, Representative Joseph Morelle (D-N.Y.) introduced a bill last May to criminalize the sharing of such content. Additionally, President Biden signed an executive order in October focused on the responsible development and management of artificial intelligence, addressing aspects such as safety, privacy, worker protection, and innovation.

Nothing new about faked pictures. They've been around as long as Photoshop. AI just makes it easier.

The real danger is in faked voices, as in scamming.

I have no problem with eliminating Prima Donna movie "stars" or singers. I like anime, which has no live actors, so "live actor" movies without real actors isn't going to make a difference, and far as music goes, I don't care who sings it as long as I like it. Movies and music to me are just entertainment, not a cult.

AI is truly a double edged sword. This is a definite example of the negative. We can only hope that those using AI to place a person at an event, in a situation, etc will be abl to be ferried out by forensic experts. But think of the skill, the time required for such work. It will be a lot easier to make a false representation than to establishing the falsity and then the originator.

AI is no doubt going to permanently affect our future, and not in a good way. It is a disaster in the making, and though the inventors of AI likely thought they were doing good work, the heinous and evil ramifications of the technology are limitless.

AI is going to have consequences more far reaching than the use of steam for machinery, the internal combustion engine and the transistor. It has the ability to replace every occupation currently held by humans, including inventing AI, when married with robots. Basically it will be a brain that knows everything currently known by humans, but able to calculate far more quickly than humans can ever hope to. A machine that can look at millions of options in seconds, and choose one that may not be to the benefit of humans.

Look at what humans do in reality, and ask yourself if AI will be used for the benefit of all, or the 1%.

if AI is so smart, lol, why are we still burning fuel to heat water to spin a dynamo to create electricity... solar and wind also did not get the reach and are they really renewable and cost efficient ? NO

AI can't make people intelligent.

Sounds horrific. Such a step backwards. Such a dreadful invention.

It's only dreadful depending on what it's used for.

It could be used to

Cure cancer and other diseases

Free up humans to do more rewarding work

Solve political problems

Save the environment

Educate everyone on the planet

Develop food plants that survive climate change

Invent better birth control and lessen need for abortions

Make great health care affordable for everyone

Etc

OR

it can be used to kill people more efficiently in wars- improved weapons, biological weapons,   autonomous fighting machines etc

Control populations- surveillance, posting on social media, spying, reading all electronic correspondence etc

Make the 1% richer- just think about the consequences of knowing what the share market is going to do

What do you think it will be used for?

You need to ask yourself how noble you think mankind is. If you have more faith in mankind than I do then it'll be used for the former. If you feel the same way about the vast majority of humans, governments, the defense industry and corporations, as they exist today then it'll be mostly used for the latter. Call me a skeptic with regard to mankind. I just don't think that the actions that mankind is taking right now look particularly promising.

I'm absolutely for the latter. I look around me at the world and at at home country, and it's all about greed.

Although in many ways this neatly epitomizes the current regimes ability to miss the important issues.

Look for the the poll conducted by Redfield & Wilton Strategies for Newsweek found that 18 percent of voters are “more likely” or “significantly more likely” to vote for a candidate with Swift’s approval.

They're pandering for Swift's support...  While neglecting the real dangers of AI.

That's about the saddest comment I've ever heard about the mentality of people today. We stand at the peak of 50,000 years of human development and 18% will get their direction from a singer. Perhaps the planet would be better off had we all been a sabre tooth tiger's dinner.

You're not sad that about half of Americans believe in fake conspiracy theories? Or that someone like Stefanik who said in January 2021 that the Jan 6 rioters were unamerican and must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law but who now says those people are hostages? Does that kind of feeble minded, self serving fickleness not worry you?

Why do you think that the GOP has now twice picked a tv or movie star to be president? Taking direction from an unqualified celebrity only now concerns you?

It has become  , and will become even more of a problem.  Where we will not be able to believe anything we see or here unless we were there,

I think we are already there. For all I know I'm the only live human posting on this forum as I've never met anyone else that does.

Far as AI goes, most of the low level jobs in the community I live in have gone.

I can

Park my car in a parking building without paying a human to raise the barrier

Do all my banking without talking to a human

Buy my groceries without a human taking my money

Fill my car without paying a human

Do an educational course without seeing a human

Buy a movie ticket from a machine and watch a movie without a human actor ( in a while the voices won't be human either )

Pay household bills without seeing a human.

Buy goods without any human involvement, other than a postman, and once drones start not even a postman.

Etc.

Life used to be about human contact, but now it's possible to live only using machines, unless we want to be involved with other people in clubs etc.

Are we better or worse off now?

Obviously most of us wouldn't want to see naked pictures of us on the internet.

But fake naked pictures where it is known that they are fake? What's the point.

I didn't see any of those controversial Taylor Swift nudes. But I read at least 10 headlines about those pictures. So if I would even see a naked picture of "her", I would know instantly that that is not her. It's a fake.

And then? Maybe I would think that the unknown body looks good or bad or whatever. But I wouldn't think that about Taylor Swift, because I know it's not her.

As far as I am concerned it doesn't make any sense. Taylor Swift would want to see the real person. And guys who are horny and want to see a sexy body don't really care if the head is from person A or B.
