I have a UK passport and will be returning to the UK on March 3rd.

 

However, my passport expires on 28th August 2024 leaving it just 3 days short of 6 months validity.

 

Am I likely to be refused a boarding pass at the airline check-in ?

 

 

 

 

There's no 6-month requirement when a Brit is returning to the UK, as long as it's a direct flight. If you have a connection, different rules might apply in the transit country.

You are returning to your passport country and thinking you need 6 months remaining validity on your passport for airline at departure?

No...  nothing of the sort.

 

The 6 month remaining passport validity is only a requirement to enter 'some' countries (that are not your home country).

 

You cannot be refused Check-in for a flight with the UK as the final destination with a passport of less than 6 months validity. 

 

There may be some excepts IF your flight involves a transit where you have to exit Immigration of the transiting country (depending on their regulations of a 6 month passport validity).

 

 

 

If you made it to the UK they would allow you in even with an expired passport or no passport at all.

 

As others have said, if you are a UK passport holder and the expiry date is even just a week, you should have no problem UNLESS your flight is not direct or your full itinerary is not on the same booking. The latter might involve you needing to collect luggage in a third country, which would also require you to go through their immigration. Even then I'd expect that showing an onward ticket to the UK in a short space of time would be OK.

My flight will be direct BKK-LHR and it is a relief to know I will not face any check-in problem.

No 

Don't think so, but your Embassy or Consulate can clarify this point. Based on what would the UK immigration NOT let a British subject return to the motherland?

No, to my knowledge you can always return to your home country, even with an outdated passport.

The 6 month validity is when you visit foreign countries.
