BANGKOK (NNT) - The Thailand Pride Committee and the LGBTQ+ network have submitted a letter to the committee for the consideration of the equal marriage bill to express their gratitude and encouragement for the urgent consideration of the bill on the occasion of Valentine's Day.

The government has indicated that the process of amending the marriage equality law has already been 70% completed, aiming to restore rights to every Thai citizen and return rights that have been taken from the LGBTQ community.

The marriage equality bill committee said it is proceeding carefully and expects to complete the consideration within the committee stage in another month.

It is anticipated that the draft law will be ready for consideration by the Senate's agenda in time. The committee recognized that equal marriage is a right that has been deprived from the members of the LGBTQ+ community, pointing out that despite partners living together for many years, they still do not have the right to register their marriage. Therefore, equal marriage must be considered an urgent matter.

Thailand Pride expressed a desire for the government to expedite the consideration of equal marriage to ensure its implementation by the end of this year.

It is expected that the four drafts of the equal marriage bill will create significant progress for Thai law regarding marriage and family, promoting greater gender equality.

Thailand Moves Closer to Marriage Equality Law

You mean that foreign men married to Thai women will be extended the same consideration as foreign women married to Thai men.

Oh damn.  Silly me.
LGBTQ+ community.  But?  🤔  Maybe Mrs Connda can become Mr. Connda and Mr. Connda and become Mrs Connda.  Yeah....hummmm?  😉

Yes, its so very confusing these days and this is why marriage no longer has any merit and meaningless on a state level.

On February 14th, 2024, Mr. Srettha Thavisin, Thai Prime Minister, gave a vision on the Thai government policy, fostering the Marriage Equality Act, at an international seminar “Business, Gender Diversity and the Way of the Future” by BJC Big C Group.

The seminar aimed to raise awareness and seek to create laws, regulations, and policies regarding gender diversity at national and international levels.

The Marriage Equality Act would allow people of the same gender to be engaged, married, and have equal rights, duties, and family status the same as regular couples, said Srettha.

All too easy for the 'easy' bit (2 women or 2 men getting married) to be confused with all the difficult & complex bits (trans, children, queerdom etc ).

Confusion is the dinosaurs' principal method.

The bill was drafted years ago. Exactly what "process" is still incomplete? Submit the bill, debate it, hold hearings or whatever they do, and vote on it. Don't keep talking about how much you want to pass it without actually doing anything.

As an aside, I note that Greece - a highly socially conservative, Greek Orthodox country - passed legislation yesterday to allow same-sex marriage.

Blah. Blah. Blah.   Stay tuned for a similar announcement several months from now and then periodically after that as far as you can see--as has been the case for years now.  What we have is no visible progress.

Really, I thought they invented it!

If this includes Falang I will eat my pants.

You may need to keep your pants in a fitting state ...

My b/f & I will certainly be there to do the deed (but not in the first 5 minutes) when/if the legislation passes. I do imagine that the news might travel rather slowly to the provinces.
