The Battle of Britain occurred more than 80 years ago, two and a half years before I was born.

After it was won, Hitler had to fight a war on two fronts. History would probably have been very different if he had not.

The only ways for generations now to see this world-changing event are via film, or air museums.

IMO the Battle of Britain is one of the best war films ever made. A classic which has lost none of its lustre. It has authenticity, even down to employing Adolf Galland, a Luftwaffe air general, as one of the technical consultants.

The cast was studded with actors that were already screen legends, complemented by those who went on to become legends themselves. The musical composition fits perfectly.

I have watched this film many times. The ending never fails to bring tears to my eyes.
