JK Rowling in ‘arrest me’ challenge over hate crime law

In a bold challenge to Scotland's new hate crime law, renowned author JK Rowling has taken to social media, inviting authorities to arrest her if they believe she has violated the legislation. Rowling, a resident of Edinburgh, expressed concerns over the implications of the law, particularly regarding freedom of speech and accurate descriptions of biological sex.

 

The Hate Crime and Public Order (Scotland) Act 2021, which recently came into force, introduces a new offense of "stirring up hatred" based on various protected characteristics, including transgender identity. In her social media posts, Rowling referenced specific criminal cases involving transgender individuals and emphasized her stance on describing individuals based on their biological sex. Despite her controversial statements, Police Scotland has not received any complaints regarding her posts.

 

The new hate crime law in Scotland carries a maximum penalty of seven years' imprisonment for offenses involving threatening or abusive behavior intended to stir up hatred. While existing legislation already prohibits stirring up hatred based on race, religion, or sexual orientation, the new act expands these protections and introduces lower thresholds for certain offenses.

 

Supporters of the legislation argue that it is necessary to address a perceived increase in hatred and prejudice in society. First Minister Humza Yousaf emphasized that the law is designed to combat a "rising tide of hatred" and assured that individuals who do not engage in threatening or abusive behavior have nothing to fear from the new legislation.

 

The introduction of the Hate Crime Act has sparked debate and protests, with critics expressing concerns about its potential impact on freedom of expression. However, the Scottish government maintains that the legislation strikes a balance between protecting individuals from hate and prejudice while safeguarding individual expression.

 

As Rowling's challenge brings further attention to the complexities surrounding hate crime legislation, the debate over the balance between protecting marginalized communities and upholding free speech rights continues in Scotland and beyond.

She's been standing up for women's rights for ages. This is not a one off stunt. She has been voicing what the majority of men and women believe but can't voice due to possible negative repercussions. FYI, she has been receiving an insane number of death threats, doxing attempts, and the so called TRAs (aka AGPs) have even gone so low as to try to bring her children into the public arena.

If you search AGP (which I believe I should not have to do to make sense of posts) the first lot of hits are  here; AGP - Search (bing.com) and range from the Attorney General of Pakistan to automated ground power!!

TRA is all over the place. Can't believe you don't know that one - Transgender rights Activists (gender added just for you to help your understanding). AGPs - blokes turned on by seeing themselves as women, i.e. blokes with autogynephilia.

I think the over zealous fixation with transgender, particularly male transgenders to female is something thing that definitely warrants some research.

 

Particularly when those exhibiting this odd fixation make reference to those upon whom they are fixated being ‘turned on’.

Never heard of them nor interested in them.

 

PS; TRA etc may be all over the (place) sites you visit but I don't visit them and so I know nothing about them!

BBC, Guardian, Telegraph, CNN, and numerous other news sites. Mainstream media is covering the topic, especially with the passing of new hate crime legislation in Scotland. I wasn't talking about astrophysics, blockchain technology or any other specialist subject.

I just Googled Guardian TRA and got nothing!

It's vague and open to interpretation. That's the whole point of it, to allow selective enforcement against certain groups of people. To control language. To keep people compliant with the "approved" opinions of those in power.

Exactly.

 

It's fine to call a white male a Gammon. That's funny. But call a black woman uppity or a black criminal a thug? No no no, that is simply unacceptable. That's hate speech. That's Racist. 

 

Christians? Open season. Muslims? Don't even think about it. 

 

Expect lots of selective enforcement as and when certain people need to be silenced. That's what it's there for after all.
