Elderly Swiss man in coma after scooter struck by car in Pattaya – VIDEO

An elderly Swiss man has been critically injured and remains in a coma following a road traffic accident in Pattaya.

 

73 year old Andreas Geisbuehler was on his way to purchase his medication when his three-wheeled electric scooter was struck by a car as both vehicles were crossing an intersection.

 

The accident happened on Friday morning, April 19, but Mr Geisbuehler’s Thai wife, Samrit Geisbuehler, is bringing it to the attention of the media again as she believes the authorities are not doing enough to prosecute the car driver, who it’s understood has refused to take responsibility.

Are there any stop signs at that intersection? Regardless, the scooter was clearly in the intersection before the (speeding?) white car arrived.

The other car had already stopped so I'm presuming that the driver of the white SUV didn't have right of way and should also have stopped. If that is the case he should be held accountable....

However, in Thailand whether you have right of way or not you should always approach any intersection with extreme caution. The elderly Swiss guy clearly didn't do that.

This is the junction from the white suv point of view. Traffic lights haven't worked for years, maybe never did.

Sorry, are you sure it was not the junction, on the other side of crossing?

Both went across without looking, these cross roads require everyone to check before proceeding. I pass that one several times a week

The Swiss guy was over halfway of the intersection, white car just mowed him down with no intention to brake.

Obviously, if he had not been in Thailand, this would have never happened.  The ultimate Thai catchall phrase that releases every Thai from personal responsibility.
