We're suppose to get some rain for a few days at the start of May.  I'm looking forward to the drop in temp but I expect humidity will be thru the roof. 

 

Oh well just another excuse for an ice cold beer! 

Breaking news, it gets hot in summer.

Spoke to some locals and they said this year is the worst they can remember here in Chiang Mai.

 

I don't use AC during the day, I just use one of those spritzer spray bottles filled with water. Actually, I have 2 and keep one in the fridge.

 

I also spray the sides of the fridge a few times during the hottest part of the day.

 

You can also spray the cooling fins of the air con with a hose pipe and spray nozzle but need to be careful of limescale buildup if you have hard water.

I tracked my home temperature with reported figures, and they stayed remarkably close up until about 6pm, but while reported figures went down fairly quickly, the temp in my house and outside stayed pretty high.  At 8pm it was still 36, and at midnight an unbelievable 33.  Even now the 'feel like' is likely around 40 given 80% humidity.

 

Current example 12:31am : weather report 28 degrees/ 88% humidity/ feels like 34

I'm not saying it's not warm; hot even. I've known hotter. Sitting in an air-con room all day is hardly getting the body acclimatized to anything. Or propping up a bar with so many fans yer can't move.

 

Right at the moment (10-25) it's 37 outside. I have to go to the farm shortly to do a bit of work. I'll not have a shirt on for 20 minutes, then put on my favourite cotton one. White with a top pocket. In a three hour work session I would normally drink at least a three litres of cold water. I take a few cold bottles with me in a poly box.

 

The other day I was out in the farm for 6 hours. TBH, that was a bit much for me. I'll do 3 hours max now. I'm not one of those that go into the sun for the sake of it. Like laying on the beach; or in the sugar field. But getting 20 minutes of sun, on as as much flesh as possible, is good for the body. Just do what needs to be done and appreciate at what nature is offering.

 

Drink plenty of water. Some laced with limes. Not easy to get lemons here.

  Glad that I got out of Thailand in March, it was hot enough then as well.

The lowest it has been out here in rural Kamphaeng Phet this April, has been 23.6C and the highest so far is 40.7 at 2 pm tis afternoon.

 

Indoors, it is now 30.8C with the a/c on since 12:30.

its just normal. I have no idea why people blather on and on about nothing. Thailand is hot, it’s always this hot, give or take. You have no point. You’re wrong. Numbers don’t lie.

What really stands out more then the difference between daily high temperatures of the 2 months, is the daily lows. Only 2 days in April of 2023 had a low of more than 85 degrees. Whereas, so far in April 2024, there have been 18. Public health officials know that it's harmful to health if people, animals and plants don't have a chance to cool down during the evening.

BBC world service is reporting prolonged extreme heat in terms of the heat index, which has recently been 50 and above- that's dangerous, and yes imo the evenings are so hot, although it does depend what sort of property you live in.

Yes, a lot of Bangkokians travelled to Pattaya for the weekend to chill out in the relatively cool 36-39 DegC.
