A recent report from the Williams Institute at UCLA reveals alarming statistics: more than 90% of transgender teenagers aged 13 to 17 in the United States reside in states where anti-transgender laws have been proposed or passed. These laws encompass various restrictions, including bans on gender-affirming care, sports participation, bathroom use, and affirmation of gender identity through pronoun usage.

 

Elana Redfield, the federal policy director at the Williams Institute and lead author of the report, emphasized the significant impact of these legislative efforts, stating that they have created a profound divide in the rights and protections available to transgender youth and their families nationwide. The report also highlights regional disparities, with approximately 85% of transgender teens in the South and 40% in the Midwest living in states with at least one anti-transgender law.

 

In response to this concerning trend, the Biden administration unveiled final changes to Title IX, adding protections for transgender students to the federal civil rights law against sex-based discrimination. These changes, set to take effect in early August, aim to ensure that all students have access to safe and inclusive school environments.

 

Education Secretary Miguel Cardona underscored the significance of these regulations in upholding the principles of Title IX and fostering environments that respect the rights of all students. Moreover, the new regulations may serve as a safeguard against state laws that seek to restrict transgender individuals from accessing facilities aligned with their gender identity, according to a senior administration official.

Perhaps that's WHY the laws are passed. It's a problem that has become too widespread to ignore and IMO right thinking people have decided that children should not be subjected to life changing treatment.

I read that completely different.  States are passing laws to protect males & females while using the bathrooms, along with keeping sporting events fair.

 

Also ensuring that people aren't prosecuted for hate crimes for using improper English when talking, addressing another person/snowflake.

 

Putting children's upbringing back into the hands of the parents, who brought them into the world, till they reach adulthood, and considered mature enough to make decisions for themselves.

 

Vote to change or move ... oh wait, the law states you aren't old or mature enough to vote, but feel free to decide your gender & alter your body chemistry.

It is about time we had some common sense and some push back on the nuttiness from Washington. People have always been picked on and name called and it helps you in life as you get a tougher skin and learn to roll with the punctures. Looking back to my schooldays, it was kids with angry pustular acne that got the most abuse. We didn't have gays to abuse in those days, or at least I didn't know any? Yes people got called h@m@, but they weren't homosexual.....it was a general term of abuse. My advice to those living in such states that don't want wokeism a ) grow a thicker skin or b) move if you are a snowflake.

Court says state health-care plans can’t exclude gender-affirming surgery

A federal appellate court in Richmond became the first in the country to rule that state health-care plans must pay for gender-affirming surgeries, a major win for transgender rights amid a nationwide wave of anti-trans activism and legislation.

 

The decision came from a set of cases out of North Carolina and West Virginia, where state officials argued that their policies were based on cost concerns rather than bias. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit rejected that argument, saying the plans were discriminating against trans people in need of treatment.

IMO that is BS. Health care insurance is for health problems, not for mutilating men or women because they imagine they'd be happy if only they get their breasts or genitals cut off. If people want such, pay for it themselves.
