Biden's Bid to Target Florida Amidst Trump's Influence

President Biden's reelection campaign is setting its sights on Florida, aiming to reclaim a state that has increasingly leaned towards the GOP and has become the new home base for former President Trump. Despite the challenges, Biden's team believes that Florida's contentious abortion debate could sway voters in their favor and potentially tip the scales in November.

While winning back Florida poses a significant challenge, Biden's campaign remains undeterred, citing the state's historical support for Democrats, including Obama's victory in 2012. With the issue of abortion taking center stage due to a restrictive new state law, Democrats see an opportunity to energize their base and appeal to undecided voters.

The recent ruling by Florida's state Supreme Court, allowing a ballot measure on abortion access, has intensified the debate and placed the issue squarely on the political agenda. This measure, which will give voters the opportunity to protect access to abortion up to 24 weeks of pregnancy, has galvanized support among pro-choice advocates and could mobilize voters in the upcoming election.

Recognizing the significance of the abortion issue, Biden's campaign has announced plans to invest more resources in Florida, viewing it as a pivotal state to flip in the 2024 election. Vice President Harris is set to campaign in Jacksonville, coinciding with the implementation of the six-week abortion ban, signaling the campaign's commitment to addressing this critical issue.

Despite facing an uphill battle in Florida, Democrats remain optimistic about their prospects, pointing to polling data that suggests widespread opposition to the six-week abortion ban. A recent Emerson College poll found that a majority of Floridians view the ban as too strict, indicating potential support for the ballot amendment to protect abortion rights.

However, Biden's campaign faces stiff competition from Trump, who maintains a lead in public opinion polls in Florida. Trump's strong showing in recent polls underscores the challenges ahead for Democrats, who must overcome his popularity and influence in the state.

Trump's dominance in Florida is further bolstered by his alliance with Governor Ron DeSantis, a staunch Trump ally who wields considerable political power in the state. Despite initial speculation about a potential rivalry between Trump and DeSantis, the two leaders recently met to discuss joint fundraising efforts, highlighting their continued partnership.

While some Democrats remain cautious about their chances in Florida, others believe it's essential to contest the state and expand the playing field in a closely contested election. With Florida's 30 electoral votes at stake, Democrats are determined to make a concerted effort to win over voters and challenge the GOP's stronghold in the Sunshine State.

As the campaign intensifies, Biden's team will continue to prioritize outreach efforts in Florida, leveraging key issues such as abortion rights to mobilize support and sway undecided voters. While the road ahead may be challenging, Democrats remain committed to their goal of flipping Florida and securing victory in November.

Biden needs to add focus on Florida's fast growing Latino population that that I feel he ignored in the 2020 election, losing to Trump in Florida. In 2020 (pewresearch.org):

  • About 2.5 million Latinos registered to vote in Florida for the 2020 presidential election, making up a record 17% of the state’s total.
  • The state had the largest Latino electorate among all battleground states and the third-largest Latino electorate overall (3.1 million eligible voters), trailing only California (7.9 million) and Texas (5.6 million).

Consider:

  • Florida has "open borders" of 2,170km along its coastline, not including the Keys.
  • Among Latino American adults surveyed by Pew Research who identified as multiracial, about 40% reported their race as "white" on standard race question as used on the US Census.
  •  A majority of Hispanics (57%) in the US say abortion should be legal in most or all cases. pewresearch.org

Biden has done a lot of good for the country. unfortunately, the immigration problem at the border is what people will remember in the Florida voting booths

LOL. IMO all the GOP has to do in Florida is allow lots of illegal immigrants stay there. Everyone knows who is to blame for them being there.

There is more to the election campaign than support for killing unborn babies.

As someone who has a long-term family in Florida and myself for 20 years before moving to Thailand I would sure like to see Biden take Florida.

But the nature of the elderly retired population in Florida is that their kids and grand kids often or mostly do not live in Florida.

Already is. That's who picks the crops. But as I said I would like to see Biden win, it is far from a sure thing.

I worked in a citrus packing house in Ft. Pierce 1975-1976 and there were zero illegals working there. Poor whites and blacks were the sole employees. Now?? I'd imagine speaking spanish is a requirement for employment.

Sooooo, who picked the crops before the illegals started arriving?

I'm sure that ( just like NZ does ) if they invited people from other countries to legally come and pick crops, they'd get enough workers that way.

Per EVENKEEL above, Poor whites and blacks

I guess it's cheaper to exploit illegals then. I don't imagine all the poor whites and blacks just vanished.

The Senate race is a toss up apparently.   The Villages is a R cesspool but the threatened cuts on Social Security who knows?

Who's to blame is big business hiring coyotes to bring in the "illegals" to drive out the American workers and drive down the wages . What party is big business? Florida does allow them to stay there so the rich can get richer -they didn't tell you that on Fox News did they?

Biden is totally delusional, more chance of him find the stairs of the stage that taking Florida.  Never going to happen again in my life time. People are moving out of california, NY and every other democrat disaster zone to Florida, they are never , NEVER, going to vote for Florida to become the same as what they have moved away from. America is finish if that bumbling fool Biden gets in again. I fully predict in my life time that there will be the issuing of either interstate passports for state visiting visa's if Biden gets in again. Headline from my time machine travels : Florida State Forces deny entry to New York State migrant train !

Actually, that's not true. Best research says that about 40% of ag workers in Florida are 'non citizen immigrants', but that includes both legal and illegal in one group.

Ah, that tired old shibboleth. "Jobs Americans won't do".  That manages to be insulting to both Americans and the illegal immigrants at the same time.  Americans are lazy, and illegals are only good for crap jobs that are beneath 'real' Americans. Congrats with that.

But of course it is not true. There are millions of Americans working in agriculture, including in Florida. You are correct that unscrupulous employers exploit the illegals and take advantage of their vulnerability. This should and could be fixed by Congress so that hiring such labor results in a hefty fine and/or imprisonment.
